K Safari traffic jams?
So obviously the animals have the right of way, and I've head if an animal parks it in front of the safari vehicle, they have to wait until it gets good and ready to leave. Is this true? And if so, has anyone gotten "stuck" on the safaris?
Although I wouldn't mind it if I got stuck on it to tell you the truth...

We've had giraffes block our way recently. It wasn't more than a 5 minute delay though, and it was very interesting.
-
All animals have the right of way and they know it. A little coaxing with the engine used to be enough, now not so much.
-
Yup, it's "thier yard" so if they decide to stop, the whole Safari stops.
We got stuck behind the White Rhinos, were stopped for at least 15 minutes, maybe longer.
We also go stopped by an ostrich.
I have a ton of photos of the rhino's, very, very close to the truck.
-
I always seem to have a run in with the animals on the safari. One time, an ostrich got right in front of the car and ambled along at his own pace. Then another ostrich starting walking behind the car, and we were going right past the lions! I thought it was some kind of elaborate trap, but the head ostrich got out of the way and we escaped. Another time, a rhino charged at the car, but we didn't have to stop.

We were stuck right by one of the gates as one of the animals got in another area and our driver had to call the handlers to come and escort the animal back across the chains on the road...obviously it wasn't a dangerous animal...but interesting

We were stopped once by an ostrich with one eye - she came up to the truck and studied us all with the remaining eye, but was so close to the vehicle that the driver couldn't move it.

Had a giraffe slow down the trip one time, it probably stood in front of the vehicle for 5-10 minutes. As soon as it's feet were an inch outside the path though the driver started moving forward. Not quite nudging it out of the way but about as close as you can get.

Animal delays are common. But if it goes on too long the CMs from Animal Programs can be called to coax the animals out of the way. A favorite treat will usually do the trick.

The lions, like all cats are lazy and know a good thing. In this case they don't like to leave their air-conditioned rock. Even if they did decide to wander, there's an electric fence to prevent then getting too close to the safari trucks.

Ugh. 35 minute delay. I timed it. Nothing better than sitting idle with nothing to look at (no animals were visible). I was up front, so I was talking to the driver and could hear all the radio chatter, as well. Ostriches sitting on the road way in front of us, many ride vehicles were backed up in front of us, but we werren't in a line ... each was ordered to stop, so we could see a few other trucks but we weren't lined up bumper-to-bumper like on a highway.
It wasn't torture, but it was annoying because we were wasting time from doing other things in the park.

We were stopped by a giraffe for a very long time. They finally called in a trainer and coaxed the animal out of the way. It was a lot of fun. It just stood there, looking at us looking at him.

I WISH I would get stuck sometime. It takes some very tricky photography to get good photos on the safari. I am always VERY proud of the good ones I do get. Every time you get ready to snap a great shot, you are whipped back in your seat by the driver taking off suddenly, or a huge bump in the road. Not easy taking pics on the safari.

We were stuck by the White Rhinos as well. One just decided that he was going to hog the road for a while.
Our driver explained, then, that one of the mamas had it in for our particular vehicle. He said that if she put her head down, we would have to stop, and hope she didn't charge. When we finally were able to move again, she followed us with her eyes until we were out of sight.
We were hoping to be charged. Now that would have been fun.

It looks like the ostriches are good at this, they stopped us once by walking slowly along the track in front of us. Eventually they got bored and left the track and we carried on at normal speed.
