Default Grand Californian Trip Report - 1st Night 5/12

After a long day at work, met up at park and ride in Santa Clarita and headed to the Grand Californian for our 3 night stay. We were able to miss the majority of rush hour traffic and arrived in just a little over an hour of drive time. We arrived at the Grand Californian and was surprised to hear that valet charge would be $17. per day. This was on top of the daily resort fee. We checked in and were told that our view had been upgraded. We had a nice view of the pools and parts of California Adventure. Our room had both a queen bed and bunk bed. Neither our tv remote or refrigerator worked, quick phone call and new refrigerator and remote were delivered to room. Headed out to dinner at ESPN Zone at DTD. Noticed walking by the monorail station, that monorail was closed was planning on using monorail in the morning to enter park during Magic Morning hour. Walked the resort and headed back to room. Shortly after arriving in room, started hearing music, stepped out on our balcony and could hear and see parts of test run for new World of Color show. Turned in for the night to rest up for day in the parks next day.

Valet has always been $17 at the GCH. You CAN opt to self park in the lot across the street. That cost is included in the daily resort fee.

Also, the monorail closes every night for about an hour around fireworks time. And, it's much faster to walk into the front gates during early magic mornings at DL when staying at the Grand. Hope these things were cleared up later in your stay.

Can't wait to read the rest of your reports!

Yes, you are right, they did tell us we could park across the street for free - included in the resort fee. I was just surprised, guess I didn't check everything out before we went. No problem, we went ahead and kept the car with the valet. Now we will know for next time.

The monorail was ended up being closed both Wednesday and Thursday all day - some type of maintenance.

More to follow soon, we had a great trip.
