Birthday meals!!

Our children will be 6 & 3 this year in April and June. Our trip isn't until August (we had to wait until school was out).

We put on our ADR's for one breakfast each that it would be that childs birthday breakfast.
We aren't getting them presents this year in lieu of going to WDW.

How do they celebrate birthdays?

And do you think April and June birthdays are better to be celebrated at least within a month or so of the actual bday?
I feel guilty booking a bday breakfast when it's not their REAL birthday, but we will never be going in April or June ....

A celebration is a celebration...I don't think it really matters. the main goal is to have fun and make a Kodak moment with the kids.

1) Different eateries "celebrate" birthdays differently.
. . . some spread glitter on the table
. . . most can give a free cupcake
. . . some wave napkins
. . . some sing a group birthday song (for all b'days in crowd)
. . . some servers will wish happy birthday
. . . you can buy a frozen Sara Lee birthday cake
. . . some do absolutely nothing at all
2) It just depends
3) Be prepared for little or nothing.
4) Be happy for anything.

NOTE: As for celebrating on birthday not on the birthday, that is up to you and explaining it to the kids. Disney doesn't care. They get paid either way.

In my experience, most restaurants will provide something to celebrate a birthday. A free cupcake, typically. Unfortunately, I see a lot of threads on these boards started by disappointed guests who expected more special treatment because they marked a celebration on the reservation. The key is to remember that anything that does happen is special, not required.

As for celebrating a birthday months after the actual day, I agree with the above post. If you and your children are comfortable, that's what matters. Disney doesn't care.

We celebrated several birthdays- and most restaurants don't do anything. We were there in December and went to Ragland Road. They brought my son out a special sundae or cupake witha candle and sang- but then the musicians also led the entire restaurant in a chorus of happy birthday to my son too- he loved it. Most places they just wish them a happy birthday and that is it. Go and enjoy anyway, you can bring something little to put on the table too.

The restaurants that we are using is the Character Breakfast with Lilo and Stitch and the other is the princess breakfast at Akershuhs...

Did you note your ADR with the birthday? If you haven't, call back and make sure to get that on the ADR.

For the age bracket of your princesses, the places that might do the nicest things for them are CP and CRT (confetti, ribbons on the table, a card signed by the characters). It's been our experience that the birthday child gets a cupcake and a bit of extra attention (the birthday songs are always fun too). As Jared pointed out, things do change. But the first step to triggering ANY kind of magic is to let the restaurant know that it's your child's birthday and the way to do that is to note it on your reservation.
