Character autograph question
Has anyone had any great ideas to collect autographs other than in the books? My kids are awfully big to still be wanting to do autographs, so I was wondering if anyone had a new twist on this...?

We've moved from the autograph books to having the characters autograph "their" page in the Disney Encyclopaedia of Animated Characters. A lot of the characters really "ham it up" when they see themselves in a book
We've also taken a wide photo mat, and had the characters sign them in "themes" (such as Mickey & Friends, Pooh, Princess, etc) and them put a picture of us with one of the characters in the mat and frame it.

I scanned the autographs into my computer when I got home. I then made a photo book. On the picture of us and that character I put their signature on the same page. It came out really cute!

You know, that had been my thought, too - have them autograph a WDW shirt, but i didn't know how the characters would be with a Sharpie - I know they sometimes have trouble handling some of the pens people give them.....

One time I had the characters sign a tote bag. I purchased an inexpensive tote bag at Ocean State Job Lot and brought it to our character meals. It was easier for them to sign it when it was flat on the table.

We brought a sharpie with us and bought a set of the Mickey Mouse hands/gloves and had the characters sign them. My daughter displays them on top of her computer desk. We have 2 autograph books filled up...and saw some high school kids do this once. Really makes for a cool conversation piece. Really like the book idea someone posted earlier!

We made quilt blocks one year and had the characters sign them and then made a quilt out of them for my DDs. They get to remember the trip longer cause they see the different names each night.

I love all the ideas! Thank you! Now I just have to decide which to do! You are all so creative!

Too big? LOL! I'm 28 and still getting autographs
As for a new idea, I've thought of making a scrapbook and have the character sign a blank page then paste pics on that page when you get home.

We've used a set of retractable Sharpies for the past couple of years, and it has been just fine for the characters. Don't get the small skinny ones, but the regular ones have been just fine for us.

our last trip in Oct/Nov we played minigolf and got the mini sharpies when we were done, These were great because we could clip them to our lanyards. The characters were able to sign with those just fine. It's all in how you hand it to them. I am in the Process of Planning a trip for this summer and I was looking for a different way of collecting the autographs. I like the Mickey Glove idea. Thank you for this thread.

Albeit, this would only work for certain occasions, but as we went for my DD's 1st b-day last October, I bought a Minnie Mouse 1st b-day card and had the characters sign it. It let them know easily that we were there for her special day (especially since she couldn't talk yet), and they really played up getting to sign the card. Then we came home and displayed it at her birthday.

Hi, first time on intercot. Love it. We bought Disney jackets for our girls in 2008 and had all of the characters sign them with a sharpie. No problems at all and the girls still wear them.
-
We have had the characters sign T-shirts on 2 different occasions and they were great souveniers. We bought different colored T-shirts at ACMoore for a very reasonable price. I would recommend not using red though, as my one DDs didn't turn out very good. We found out that no color shows up on red except black.
On our last trip, my girls had them sign canvas tote bags while my boys had them sign pillow cases.
I always take along a stack of unlined 4x6 notecards on a ring and have the characters sign them so I can include them in our WDW vacation scrapbooks.
Alas, I think our autograph days are over. The DDs informed me they aren't interested in it anymore, and only one of the boys is interested. I'll let him choose what he wants to have signed this coming trip, and of course, I'll have my notecards.
I have always taken along Sharpies and my oldest DD chooses the color to use depending on the character, ie. red for Mickey and Minnie, orange for Tigger, green for Peter Pan, etc.... You get the picture.

Our 3 kids each wore a hat and had them autographed. Nothing to carry! And a great souvenir to wear later.

These are all great ideas. Last summer, a couple used a pair blue jeans for the characters to sign.
