Default how to use a generator?

So my question is...When I go rent the generators that are needed will they give me a crash course in how to use them? Is it difficult? Anything I need to keep in mind or keep an eye on? How often do I fill them with gas? Do I shut down the whole system while refilling with gas? Maybe then it is better to have more than one so I can kind of do it in shifts? Thanks!

Yes, but you may have to ask.
    Is it difficult?
    No.
Anything I need to keep in mind or keep an eye on?
CO. Keep it outside. If it's in your garage, keep the garage door open when in use.
How often do I fill them with gas?
Depends on the size of the tank.
Do I shut down the whole system while refilling with gas?
You're supposed to... but... well... just be careful.
Maybe then it is better to have more than one so I can kind of do it in shifts?
What do you need it for? For how long? Might be better to buy one than rent.

My DD is doing a big outdoor event for her Girl Scout Gold Award, we were thinking two or three smaller ones instead of one big one with the total watts just in case we had problems with the one. They are running equipment for a "bandfest" PA system, amps, lights etc.
Thank you for the advice! I am sooo hoping not to blow anything up!!

    1. Check the oil.
    2. Check the fuel. Make certain the fuel line is open! It is probably a quarter turn switch underneath the tank on the fuel line.
    3. Turn the key to START, just like a car, or,
    4. Turn the key or switch to ON, and pull the cord. Most start very easily nowadays and very few need to be choked to start, but there may be a priming bulb. Just squeeze it before you start it.
    5. Plug your cords in.
    6. Make certain the power breakers and switches are in the ON position.
    7. Rock and Roll!
    8. If the power goes out, check the breakers.

6000 volt generators are now very portable and extremely quiet, many have wheels on them.

Also consider using portable GFCI connectors, available at most pool supply and hardware stores, especially if you are outside and the ground is wet.

Depending on the engine size, you should get at least a couple of hours out of a regular size tank. Check them regularly, and when you turn them off to re-fuel, check the oil again. Make certain you have the right type of fuel to refill it. Most use regular gasoline, but there are some that use diesel.
