Default Cheapest Place to eat in each park?

    Hidey ho folks!

So, I'm venturing to the land of the and I'm on a TIGHT budget...so, we're thinking snacks most of the day then one meal in the parks.

    Probably late afternoon early eveningish...

We're going to every park so I'm looking for suggestions on the cheapest places for a family of 5 to eat...

    any ideas?

    hugs and kisses!

Casey's Corner in MK (counter service specializing in hot dogs) is pretty reasonable. You can get a 1/4 lb. all beef hot dog, fries and a regular drink for just under $8.00 per person. That is our usual stop right after we get into MK the first day we are in WDW.

The first trip we went down to disney, we made it off of a few counter services, a softsided cooler with snacks, a hiking canteen backpack with water to fill from fountains, and a few breakfast foods we brought from home. We bought hardly any food in the parks. We did eat one good meal at Trails End Buffet(FW), which is the cheapest buffet but still great food. We ate at Casey's Corner(MK), The Lunching Pad(MK), Restaurantosaurus(AK), Sunshine Seasons(epcot), and stopped for smoothies(HS). We spent a very small amount and I think the counter services are very comparable to fast food places anyways, and some places the meals are big enough to share. The burgers for example, are quite large for me and I have to really try to want to finish it, if I have my own.

I think it is pecos bills in MK that you can order a double burger along with an extra bun. They have a full toppings bar so you could still top each burger individually. In the past when I have not gone during free dining, I would sometimes order a kids meal, it was the perfect size for me most times.

The costs at counter services in each park are all comparable.

Cups of ice water are always free.

Anytime you order a double burger, you can order an extra bun (for a small fee).

Take quickie breakfast food with you and eat in the room before you head out.

You're allowed to bring your own food into the parks (sans glass bottled items).

If you're driving, you can eat meals outside Disney and save LOTS of money. We always eat lunch in the parks but usually eat breakfast and dinner outside the parks (unless we're using the DDP).

The Chicken Caesar Wrap at Pecos Bill's (if they still have it) is pretty big and two could probably share.

The same goes for TS restaurant at Mexico in EPCOT. Some items have large portions, so two people with normal appetites could share.

I'll agree with the Peco's Bills.....we have ordered double burgers and an extra bun before....also shared the chicken wrap (it fed DH and me), along with an order of fries. I do believe that Cosmic Rays has a similar menu so you could do a double burger/fries there too and both of these places have a fixins bar to top your burger off with (lettuce, tomato, pickles, sauteed mushrooms, condiments and who knows about the cheese sauce status?!?!?! is it there or not -- I don't know on that one!)

At AK we usually ate at Tusker House, which we still do, but now it's a TS. I think that if you can get by on some fruit they have it near the Safari -- it's fresh and sometimes cold!

In Epcot -- we usually eat at Sunshine Seasons....the portions here are pretty large and can be shared -- even the kids meals! I've been known to just get a kids meal myself (when DH splurges and gets a meal plus sushi!).

At MGM we always eat at the Backlot Express and you can order a double burger there too with an extra bun also....they do not have a fixins bar though like Peco's Bills does!

We also have been known to take PBJ's in with us an buy a piece of fruit. We always take our own bottled water (put in the top of the fridge at the hotel and crank down the temp and the water freezes so it's cold for a while). We also take other snacks with us....granola bars, fruit snacks, etc.....

Our next trip with DS#2 should be interesing though......he is allergic to so much! We'll have to mix up our backpack!

I think one of your best bets is to share counter service meals. The chicken meals at Cosmic Rays are big enough to share, the same with the Flame Tree BBQ meals at the Animal Kingdom. I also had a cuban sandwich at the ABC Commissary in DS that was huge. I say split CS meals then fill in with snacks and bottles of water you bring in.

The chicken platter at Cosmic Rays could be shared.

The turkey wrap at Pecos Bills is huge!

If you aren't BIG eaters, you can split a captains choice meal at the Columbia Harbour House. It is a combo meal of chicken and fish. It gives a little more.

The best deal we have found is the whole pizza at most value and moderate resorts. Our favorite is at Pop Century.

    Default Earl of Sandwich

It's not in the parks; it is in Downtown Disney but the Earl of Sandwich is one of the most reasonably priced restaurants on Disney property. Very tasty as well.

    Angyl15,

Thanks for the great tip about ordering the extra bun at Pecos Bills. I never even thought of that. We'll be sure to do that when we visit in November.

If you are willing to share food you could eat at Cosmic Rays in MK, Sunshine Seasons in Epcot, and Flame Tree in AK. I have not found much to speak of for a CS in HS. Also Earl of Sandwich in DTD is relatively cheap, but you could possibly split portions at Wolfgang Puck Express for a couple of dollars more. All of the above listed with the exception of Earl offer pretty large portions, more than I could eat myself, and enough to feed DH who can eat a lot. I think I could probably split entrees at the above with DS - 5 and DS 2 without a problem and they are good eaters.

We have found that portions are just too big for adult meals and that the healthy options were slim. Since we live close and have AP's we tend to go for long weekends and never book out far enough anymore to ever score ADR's. So we were getting stuck with counter service...which just made us feel yucky.

We started bringing breakfast from home (cereal, bowls and a few spoons...buy the milk in the general store) and I pack sandwiches (if you don't have a fridge do peanut butter), fruit, veggies and pre-portioned snacks in my bag during the day. We refill our water bottles in the fountains as well.

The last trip we did no ADR's or table service meals, We found that going this route we spent around the same as if we would have stayed home and went out to dinner once or twice.
