I'm interested to hear the replies. I have had breakfast at CM many times and have always enjoyed it but I have to say when we were there in Oct we didn't enjoy it as much. It wasn't awful but not as good as usual. It seemed liked they were skimping on the choices and the food was warm not hot.

We had lunch at CM a few years ago. I would never return - it was the weakest meal of the trip. Very few food options, and what they had was lukewarm and really picked over. Granted, we went for a late lunch, but still. No comparison to the Crystal Palace buffet, which I use as a point of reference since it is another character buffet. Haven't been to Kona.
CM was a great place to see Minnie and Mickey. Just had bad food.

Chef Mickey's has offered a Character Lunch during the past several Free Dining Periods.
I have yet to come across an official announcement for this year listing the full dates of the offering, but a number of reservationists have confirmed that it is currently available in their systems for most, if not all, of the Free Dining Period.
The meal is typically the same buffet and character selection that is available at Dinner.

This past June we went to CM's for dinner. While the characters were great the food was horrible. I was not expecting gourmet food but I would say it was like eating cafeteria food. Yuck. I will not go back for dinner again.

Chef Mickey = not so good
Kona = very good....very reasonable...very much not overhpyed and therefore, mobbed (what i like to call the "le Cellier effect")

this is a bummer about CM, kind of was hoping food would be good enough and an added bonus on our full day with character interaction. I don't want to give up eating well though so I will keep my Kona ressie and dump the CM.
Thank you all for your help, much appreciation!

CM is the worst meal we ever had at Disney, but Kona gets good reviews all the time (never gone myself)
The only life I can think of that would be worse than being a special needs mom is not being one...

We have repeatedly had excellent meals and service at Kona Cafe. We also go to CM for dinner, but we don't go for the food - it's all about the experience with the characters for our son. The last time we went (Feb 2009) the food was better than before, but still nothing to rave about.
