Do You Hate Coffee Too?
Does anyone else here hate coffee? I’m 43 years old and I have never understood why everyone drinks coffee. I mean, I can understand ½ to ¾ of the people maybe liking it, but I swear I think I’m the only person over 16 years old that hates it. I mean to me it is quite frankly one of the most disgustingly tasting beverages out there. Beverly is awesome compared to it. About once every other year so, usually after Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner, I try a sip or two thinking I might learn to like it. You’d think I would learn, it tastes worst each time. People often ask me; “How do you wake up in the morning?” What a bizarre question! I open my eyes and get out of bed.
Am I the only one who thinks this way?

I am about to turn 33 and I hate it, too. Always did. I think it's bitter and gross- and I don't like the sweet confection kinds either. Too sweet and so many calories, too. I guess I save a lot of $$ seeing how I don't have a Starbucks of McDonald's coffee habit.
I get my caffeine from Diet Pepsi. I don't need it to wake up- but I do drink some in the morning.

I'm 56 and have only had a sip of coffee...by accident. Someone put it in the ice tea maker at a local restaurant. Yuck! Don't understand why or how people can drink it, but to each their own!

That's how Ifeel about beer!
23 times since 1993 and still counting

Add me to the list too. I am always invited to "go out for coffee." It seems to be the main social event where I live. I used to belong to this Mom's group and it seemed like every event revolved around coffee! I agree that even the sweet concoctions are just as bad. Even my teenager likes it, but I can't stand the stuff.

Another "not-a-coffee" fan here!
I do love the smell of it, and DH is a coffee fan, so it works out really well...I get to smell it, but don't have to drink it.
I do like tea and hot chocolate, so I'll one of those when the need for a hot drink arises.

My DH is 51 and hates coffee. He loves the smell, but hates the taste. I have been a coffee drinker for many years, but not for the caffeine. I sometimes even drink decaf.
As someone else mentioned though, I feel the same with beer. Can't figure why anyone would like it.

I love the smell of fresh ground coffee - but that's the end of my liking it at all. Almost 50 and not going to fall in love with it anytime soon (ever). DW and oldest son 24 are both coffee lovers, but my other son, 21, is like me except with him hate is a mild description of what he thinks about it.
Give me a hot chocolate if anything.

I don't like coffee. I don't like iced coffee. I don't like flavored coffe. I don't like coffee flavord desserts either. I just don't like coffee.

There is a huge world of options with coffee, beer (and tea to some extent)- especially with coffee I think that terroir is even more of a factor than wine in influencing flavor. A great cup of coffee doesn't need any cream or sugar and you can enjoy a wide range of flavors depending on bean origin.
Coffee and beer are alike in that at a basic level they consist of a few simple ingredients- but it is those ingredients combined with the brewing process that makes the difference between say Pabst Blue Ribbon and something like Westveleteren from Belgium.
A lot of people will just throw coffee into any old coffee maker without any consideration other than setting the timer or hitting the brew button, but there is a lot of science at play which can significantly affect the outcome- cleanliness of the brewing equipment, local water quality, type of grind, brewing process, temperature, filter selection, quantity of beans per cup to the contact time (extraction) between grounds and water all play into the chemical process as you're trying to dial in extracting the good soluble compounds and minimizing the bitter compounds from getting into your cup.

Bite your tongue. Life just isn't worth living without coffee or beer.
Seriously though, my hubby doesn't do coffee either.

A military man who doesn't do coffee? That is highly unusual!

Agree!!! I'm 46 and have never had more than one sip of coffee. I can barely get that to stay down. I don't like flavored coffee, iced coffee or anything that is coffee flavored either.
I do like hot tea and iced tea but NOT with sugar!! Traveling down south is great because I get FRESH iced tea instead of instant or stuff that's been sitting around for 2 or 3 days.
I also don't like beer and I'll go one step farther and horrify everyone and say I don't like chocolate!

All civil conversation might grind to a halt without coffee or beer!

I started drinking coffee about 3 years ago. It's an acquired taste.
I drink it black, but a lot of the coffee drinkers I know add cream and/or sugar to change the flavor. In fact, my brother-in-law has a little bit of coffee with his vanilla cream.

At least now I don't feel so alone. I have tried coffee at different times over the years in various ways. I hate the taste, but I like the smell.
