    Default Atlanta, Georgia

Ok a short background. We were supposed to be going to Houston, Texas for memorial day weekend, but things came up and my DH has to be in Georgia that weekend instead. So we are going to be in Ft. Benning, Georgia on the Thursday night. Our plan is to drive to Atlanta on Friday and come home Sunday afternoon.

I need suggestions on everything from what hotel to stay at, what to do, what not to miss, where to eat. When doing research I think we'd like to stay in the downtown area. The hotel we were staying at in Texas had a nice pool with pool slides that the kids were looking forward to. Any hotels compareable in Atlanta??? One hotel that I think looks really nice is the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Is this hotel in walking distance to any of the downtown attractions? Is it as nice as it looks in pictures? I also think Lake Lanier looks like a great place, but its not in the city. Would we have a more enjoyable weekend at Lake Lanier or in Atlanta??? Is Stone Mountain Park worth our time? Any suggestions are welcomed!! Thanks.

I have never stayed overnight in Atlanta but I have been several times. You might want to check out the Georgia Aquarium, the world of COKE (the drink, ha ha), underground Atlanta and if you are going to have time Six Flags over Georgia.

I hope you have a great time!

Stone Mountain is kind of cool. They have a beautiful park area, a lift to take you to the top of the mountain, and at night during the summer they have a laser show. Be prepared for some good ol' redneck traditions!!

    Default Southern Fun in Atlanta

Stone Mountain is nice and a landmark here in the south. Six Flags is good if you wanna ride roller coasters. World of Coke and the aquarium are next to each other and alot of fun too! The hotel you mentioned is nice and there are too many restaurants to choose from that are worth a visit. Maybe the Braves will be playing while you are in town and tickets are always cheap in the outfield!

The Brave's are playing while we are in town, and that is one of the things we are considering. Since we'll be there for such a short time we were thinking of either doing Stone Mountain for the whole day, or doing the downtown attractions, like the Georgia Aquarium, the Coca Cola museum, and maybe the baseball game. We aren't going to do Six Flags, we are going to be headed to WDW just two weeks later so no need for Six Flags. What about Lake Lanier, anyone have any information about it?

I stayed at the Marriott many moons ago - it was a very nice hotel and I'm guessing it hasn't changed. I don't believe you are going to find a slide at the pool.

If you like hot dogs, try The Varsity Drive In. It's not too be missed.
Everybody's got a laughing place - trouble is most folks won't take the time to go look for it.

Yeah, I know there isn't a slide at that particular hotel pool. I was just wondering if there are any hotels in Atlanta that I am not seeing that may have a pool with a slide. I don't thind there are any hotels like this in Atlanta, at least none that I've been able to find.
