Gatlinburg Cabin Rentals?

We are looking at maybe getting away for a couple of days in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. Can any of you tell me which cabin rental companies you've used before? Also, were there any extra fees that were thrown in that you didn't realize? We enjoy this area for a quick getaway, but have always stayed in hotels before. DSs are really looking forward to a cabin this time around!

Volunteer cabin rentals is one we use when we aren't taking my dog. All their fees are on their website. We have stayed in a lot of the cabins they have they are always wonderful.

Last June we rented a cabin in Gatlinburg from Hickory Mist Cabins. It was a 5 bedroom, spectacular cabin. We also looked around at a few of their other cabins in the area as we plan on going back in 2010. I would highly recommend this company. Cabins are first class, very clean and they have many sizes available.

Ahhhh, I love the mountains...we're lucky the NC mtns are only about 3 hours from us.

We have used american patriot getaways...they have extra fees for sure...but they are all listed on website. They also have alot to choose from. Our transactions have gone really well..we've used them twice.

When we go back (Gatlinburg is my home town) for youth retreats we use Mountain Laurel Chalet rentals. They are one of older rental companies (thou they have lots of new units in their inventory) in the area and have always given us good service without lots of bumps (add on fees) in the rental agreements. However, most of their units are in the Ski Mountain area (upper end of gatlinburg near the national park entrance). From here you will often be able to get the big view that most folks are looking for...(i.e. mount leconte and the crestline of the Smokies).

Another option,if you prefer to be closer to Pigeon forge (i.e. Dollywood and lots of touristy attractions) would be to do something between gatlinburg and pigeon forge...a small rental company that has helpful management is Caney Creek Cabin Rentals...they also have some good mountain top/rdigeline views...and are the closest to Pigeon forge on the Spur (the road between Gatlinburg and Pigeon forge).

By the way, I have no vested interest in either company (not related to any of them), but both have had a good name in the area. hope this helps.

Thank you so much! I can't believe how many cabins are in the area...it's really making the decision difficult.

We love Gatlinburg, but also have always done hotels! We just went in '08 over Labor Day weekend and had a blast! I've looked into a few cabins, but like you say, the inital price was very misleading! I gave up when I found some nice hotels with attractive rates! Good Luck and wishes for a great trip!
