Economy? Book now or wait?
I am planning to visit WDW 12/30/09 thru 1/3/10. I want to take advantage of the Birthday offer which, for me, will be on 12/31/09. I want to stay on site at CBR in one of the new Pirate theme rooms. It will be myself and 11 yo twin dd and ds.
My question is would it be better to book this trip now, or wait to see if prices drop due to economy?

Don't count on a discount for that time period as it is extremely busy. Availability can also go quickly. I would recommend booking now via Magical Journeys so that if some sort of discount does happen to come out they will automatically adjust your reservation without any hassle to you.

ditto. work with Magical Journeys. Everyone here (or at least as far as I have read) has great success with them being able to retroactively apply discounts to their packages. Also if you are a member of AAA they can usually get you some sort of small discount that way.....which is better than paying "rack rate".

Due to Disney's policies, I can't imagine a scenario in which you'd put yourself at a disadvantage by booking as early as possible.
When you book a package, you aren't locked into anything until you pass the 45 day mark (45 days from your arrival). When you book a room-only reservation, you can cancel as late as 6 days in advance without penalty.
So there's no risk. The benefit is that you have your room no matter what ... they can't take it away from you. But if a better deal comes out, you can contact Disney (or your travel agent) and try to take advantage of that deal. Already having a reservation does NOTHING to either help you or hurt you when trying to take advantage of a sale/promotion. Please read that again ... having a pre-existing reservation can't help you get that discount, but it also can't hurt you or prevent you from getting that discount (as long as you're more than 45 days from your trip).
On the flip-side, if the room-type you want in the resort you want is already sold out, then you are locked out of that room regardless of anything else.
So my advice is make that reservation as soon as you are sure of what you want, and also be sure you will be able and willing to pay for it at the rates you booked it at. Then, cross your fingers and pay attention to any sales/promotions that come out.
I hope this all makes sense.
