    Cool

    NASCAR yes.

Dale - not so much. In my opinion, he's an ok driver who is much overrated and garnished the majority of his fan base from his name. He is a talented driver, don't get me wrong, but not as good as his notoriety would lead you to believe.

And of course it has not escaped me that Tony Steward won the Nationwide race and was poised for a chance to win the 500.

I have tried to get back into Nascar for several years. During the late 80's until around 2005 I followed the sport pretty closley. However I just got fed up with several things.

I got really tired of seeing guys like Sterling Marlin and Bobby Hamilton get shafted becuase they were not the new face of NASCAR. I mean Sterling was well on his way to winning the championship in the late 90's when he "mysteriously" fell apart. I truly believe there was something more to it than just bad luck. It just screamed "pro wrestling" to me. That year I watched Sterling get penalized laps for infraction that Gordan and others were not even disciplined for. Sometimes in the very same race.
Guys like Tony Stewart get away with ametuer night antics while other drivers get labled reckless. Anyways off the soap box.

I hope to find a new driver to follow someday. I watched the race today and enjoyed it.

I am a big time NASCAR fan!

Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, and Jamie McMurray are my favorites

My best friend is a Dale Jr. fan... she even just got a stuffed animal version of his dog Killer (which is slightly obsessive, but it's a very cute stuffie!)

I'm still mad that they ended the 500 under red yesterday... I was looking forward to another photo finish!

Poohluv85 I am a Dale Jr fan. My dad used to watch NASCAR when we were little and I cheered for yes you guessed it Dale Sr but stopped watching as I got older. Was flipping chanels one day and stumbled upon a race and a picture of Dale Jr and I was hooked again!!!!

I am so glad racing has started again and hoping to be able to go to another race this year. Maybe Texas in November!!

Big Dale Jr fans right here!!!

And I feel that Vickers was in the wrong, not Jr.

Ending the race the way they did put a huge damper (no pun intended) on what is usually an exicting race. I think many people felt cheated.
But, I was glad to see someone like Kenseth take the win.

    Hoping for a great season!

Sweet! its awesome to find so many fellow nascar fans and #88 fans lol. Mickeymousse i whole heartedly agree about the results of the 500. I felt it to be somewhat anticlimatic, congrats to matt kenseth anyways though. I already cant wait until July, at present i cant afford to travel to the races lol, have to save for my trips to disney ya know lol.

I like jr. haven't really been watching it lately though. I was really a fan of his dad though. Also Steve Park (he used to drive modifieds for my DH's boss) was sorry to see what happened to him. So sad about what's happened with DEI.

I'm a nascar fan & JR fan. I also like Jamie Mcmurray.

I was glad JR did that sunday. I know a lot of people thought he was wrong, but if it would have been their driver they would think diffrent.

We are also fans of Steve Park, always will be. He grew up not too far from me and raced in the early years at our local Long Island tracks.

DEI's certain downfall can all be blamed on the wicked stepmother, Theresa. How sad.

Agree with all of you on the Theresa Earnhardt issue. I don't think there would have been any way Dale Sr. would have let Jr go. Maybe he wouldn't have wanted to leave either.

    Default Not a hater...

Not an 88 lover here but I won't say I'm a hater either. It will be interesting to see how he handles being so far back in points. He needs to make something happen right away or he's going to be a go or go homer come week #6.

Dale Sr. set that company (DEI) up with the purpose of taking care of his kids. Shameful what Theresa has done.

As for me, neither lover nor hater. I've always thought he was a good kid with talent who was unfortunate to be thrust into too many high expectations by SOME of his fans.

True after Dale's accident alot of people thought that Jr. was going to step into his dad's shoes. There is only 1 Dale Earnhardt and that is the way it should be. Jr. is his own person and shouldn't be expected to be another intimadator. Have always liked him because he was different than his dad. He always just seemed like he was having fun hopefully he can get back to that.

Kenseth and Martin ( I bleed Ford blue)

As for the DEI thing, I never liked Sr, don't really care for jr. And DEI hadn't really gotten off the ground yet when Dale Sr. died

It's hard to compete with the Hendicks, rouschs, Gibbs and RCRs of Nascar.

Jr's with the best race team out there and still can't win !! LOL

That's not really true. DEI had won races with Jr., Park, and Waltrip driving for them. They had also won championships in the busch league. They were still a young garage to have accomplished all they had. I thought martin had retired.

Coreen, Mark Martin is driving the 5 full time this year for Hendrick. I don't know if his contract goes beyond this year, but think it's a one year deal.

And you're right about DEI, at the time of Dale's death, it was actually peaking. Until Steve was injured, all three cars (1, 8, and 15) were doing quite well actually.

Scott thanks I could've sworn Martin had retired, or does he just keep talking about it. I still get a laugh about when Dale called Steve up to ask him to drive for him. Steve thought it was his crew chief (when he was driving for Sheba racing) messing with him. It's sad how things changed I would've loved to see how things would've been if not for the accidents.
