Default Absolutely, Positively Blown Away !

    1) We are currently in Las Vegas.
    2) No convention, no business trip, no vacation.
    3) The wife simply wanted to see Cirque Du Soleil "LOVE".
    4) This is Cirque's newest show, based upon solely on Beatles music.
    5) I have seen three other Cirque shows, but this one wiped me out!
    6) The wife is already searching for tickets to another show before we leave.

    7) The show
    . . . has the Beatles music, mostly un-stylized
. . . has up to 14 performers being lowered from ceiling at once
. . . has a absolutely huge cast of dancers, aerialists, gymnasts
    . . . has computer graphics
    . . . has dancing and theatrics
. . . has bubbles, "snow", confetti, fog
. . . has more creativity than any other Cirque show I have seen

    8) It takes a lot for me to be wiped like this, but this show is a keeper.

Cirque du Soleil has certainly made quite an impact in Las Vegas, considering that on any given night close to 9,000 people will attend a Cirque show in Vegas (which works out to something like 5% of visitors).

They have definitely taken an interesting approach to redefining the Vegas show, by taking examples of Vegas staples and reinterpreting them in their unique way- Cirque seems to look at the Vegas stereotypes and sees how they can reinvent them- you have the nod to tribute shows like LOVE, or the magic show redone with their collaboration with Criss Angel's BeLIEve and I believe they are looking to take on a show around Elvis as their next challenge for the Vegas market.

With their resident shows, I was first really impressed with O (several people I've worked with were involved in the technical engineering on that show), and Ka took things to another technical level with their theater.

I wasn't so impressed with LOVE, but I think it has to do with the director of that show- Dominic Champagne where I haven't really been impressed much with any of his work for Cirque (his other projects were the touring show Varekai and the more adult-oriented Vegas show Zumanity), but that might just be a stylistic difference as he was the first sort of "outsider" brought in to give Cirque a fresh perspective.

Cirque just opened a new resident show at the Tokyo Disney Resort called Zed and it is truly amazing but too bad a lot of people will never get to see this show. Taking some of the best elements from previous shows in terms of the circus acts from chinese poles, handbalancing, juggling, tightrope or banquine and raising the bar but of course expectations were set so high for both their first resident show in Japan and with the Oriental Land Company/Tokyo Disney Resort backing the show. I've only caught previews of the show, and am looking forward to seeing the final production soon.

La Nouba on the other hand was admittedly rushed into production and I think it shows.

There are other future plans for a resident show in Los Angeles at the Kodak theater and a collaboration coming up with Michael Curry for Dubai I think (puppet-designer extraordinaire noted for his work on projects like the Lion King broadway show, Tapestry of Dreams and Little Mermaid show for Tokyo Disney Resort).

We went to see LaNouba for the first time this past visit the beginning of May 08, and loved it, now I want to see this one, I love the Beatles!! I'm assuming, like LaNouba, that it will only be in Las Vagas? Doubt I'll ever get there unfortunately, do you know if they will be taking it on the road?

    Thanks!!

We saw Ka in Vegas and had the same feelings you experienced with Love. We'll go back and do another Cirque show for sure. We stayed at the Wynn and saw Spamalot also that weekend. Didn't gamble but we had fabulous accommodations, gourmet dining and fantastic entertainment. Yes, we loved Vegas. Adult Disney on steroids.

After reading a lot of overheated puffery about your new cook, you know what I'm craving? A little perspective. That's it. I'd like some fresh, clear, well seasoned perspective. Can you suggest a good wine to go with that?

I want to go back to Vegas and one of the main reasons is to see LOVE. I'm glad you enjoyed it, it sounds like a great show.

I haven't seen LOVE but I have the album. I love the mixes. George Martin, former Beatles producer, was responsible.
