    Question Water?

I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question but I will give it a shot. We have been told by several people to bring a case of water to save some money. If we are taking the DME from the airport to the hotel can they stop? Is there a good way to get water and bring it back to the hotel. Obviously I dont want to spend a fortune paying for cabs and stuff if in the end it is a larger headache and going to defeat the purpose of having the water to save money.

    Thank you!

Be careful packing lots of water in your suitcase - the overweight charges for your baggage will surely cancel out any savings you may have gotten if your bag goes over 50lbs.

DME doesn't make any stops, so that won't work either.

We just buy our own drinks when we are there. We also buy the refillable mugs.

I am sure though, that other folks will be along to offer tips on getting some water to your room.

Not sure where u r staying but here is a list of stores near by. Remember if you r on the dining plan you can use your snack for a drink. if you are staying in the DTD area you can walk to the first one listed or just visit DTD and walk to the store. that might be your best bet.

    Grocery Shopping

There is a limited selection of groceries and sundries available at all of the Walt Disney World resorts. If you're looking to just pick up a few necessities, try the store(s) in your resort first. However, if you're looking for a little more selection (and perhaps some better prices), here are some other suggestions outside of the resorts:

    Gooding's Supermarket
SR 535 & Hotel Plaza Blvd, Lake Buena Vista
    (Open 24 hours a day)-- 1-407-827-1200
In the Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista shopping center - located across the street (SR 535) from the Downtown Disney resorts on Hotel Plaza Boulevard. This is probably one of the most popular selections for store-seekers. It's best to drive to Gooding's or take a cab, unless you're staying at one of the Hotel Plaza resorts closer to SR 535, such as the Best Western Lake Buena Vista or the Hotel Royal Plaza. But even then it's probably a good ways, especially when you're hauling groceries. Some form of transportation would be your best bet.

    Wal-Mart SuperCenter
4444 West Vine, Kissimmee, FL 34746
    (Open 24 hours a day) - 407-846-6611
Located off US 192 east of the Walt Disney World resort area. Driving your car or hailing a cab will be necessary to visit Wal-Mart or the Publix mentioned below.

    Publix
2925 International Drive, Kissimmee, FL 34746
    2915 Vineland (at 192), Kissimmee (1-407-396-7525)

Sorry, but DME will not stop for food shopping along the way to the hotel. If you want to, you could ship the water to your hotel in advance this might save you money. What we do is bring a water filter and some empty water bottles to cut back on the weight. Then we filter the water in our room, fill the empty bottles, freeze as many as we can and bring them with us the next day to the parks.

There's a Wally World a lot closer than the one listed:

    Wal-Mart Supercenter Store #5420
    3250 Vineland Road
    Kissimmee, FL 34746
    (407) 397-1125

This is on 535 3 miles south of the intersection of 535 and Hotel Plaza Blvd, or 1 mile south of World Drive (Rte 536).

There is also a newer SuperTarget close to WDW on 192 just a short distance east of 535.

could you not get Garden Grocer to deliver?

This is what I was thinking of doing...along with a few snack items and possibly diapers.

We used Garden Grocer on our last trip and they were great. We had drinks, water, snacks, milk, beer and a bottle of liquor delivered to our room. They arrived about 30 minutes after we checked in.

BUT, I also saw that we really did not need all that stuff and we had plenty of SC to use for these things. We are going back in Dec and have decided what we can get at the parks and small resort Markets will be just fine.

I would also recommend Garden Grocer. We had breakfast items including milk sent to our room. We also ordered water, and juice boxes for the kids. It was a money and time saver. The cost for the groceries were not that much higher than what you would normally pay.

I think I would do grocery delivery if I needed other items like snacks, food, etc. but for just water, but the slightly elevated price plus the delivery charge might be a little steep to make it much cheaper than just getting your water at the parks.

I like the idea of bringing a pitcher/filter and a few empty bottles to fill, but it may be time consuming depending on your pitcher. Also, only really less expensive if you already own the pitcher. However, it would certainly help me with my 'night-time' glass of water - the tap water is SO gross.

Lots of great ideas though. Hope it helps you!

    Default water

There are two different reasons why people will tell you to bring water. First, some people do not like the taste of FL's water. If this is your reason, I suggest getting a reusable water filtering bottle (like Brita, etc). Filter the tap water and put it into something smaller to carry to the parks (like a "used" water bottle).

Second, some people don't mind the taste of the water, they just don't want to spend all that money each day at the parks just to buy bottles of water. (This is DH & me.) We bring two empty water bottles (whatever size you would be willing to carry around the parks.) I actually have at least one of these bottles with me in my carry-on (TSA permits you to carry EMPTY water bottles through security). As I'm waiting for my flight, I fill it (drinking fountain, tap, etc) so I have something to drink while I wait and on the plane. (Yes, I drink a lot of water). At WDW, we refill our bottles each AM and carry them to the parks (I have a neoprene cover, with a strap, to keep it cool). I refill from the many water fountains all over the parks.

As others have mentioned, DME will not stop at any store. If you rent a car, you can buy a few water bottles at any nearby store for a lot less than you'll be charged at WDW. Just don't buy huge bottles; yes, they're cheaper per ounce, but you won't want to lug them all around.

    Default Thank you

Thank you everyone for such wonderful and quick feedback. I like the idea of the Brita water filter. I think I am going to shop around and see if one of these companies makes a travel size or portable water filter. I think that makes great sense and beats lugging the water around through luggage. It also sounds like making a trip to a store only for water will not justify buying water offsite. I have noticed some people mentioned buying other products for refridgeration. Do these rooms at the CRB have fridges?

    Thank you again!

That's exactly what I was thinking a Brita water filter (if you MUST have bottled water) and/or just bring water bottles. We often buy a water bottle and one of those little bottle slings and just refill it through the day. If you want a little flavor...pick up a couple of boxes of crystal lite to go or propel to go. I LOVE the Peach Tea and the Berry Propel.

Yes, rooms in Caribbean Beach Resort do have small (dorm-sized) refrigerators.

also, those of us who recommend bringing bottled water are those of us who can drive down...just throw the case in the car.....on a flight I would NEVER think of that...the weight alone would not justify it.....

...the filter idea is great....even with us driving, I may try n adopt that idea.....??

One thing my husband and I did on our last trip to the World was to order a cup of ice water at any CS. It is FREE and it was always served in the normal sized cup. We didn't mind the taste of the water...as long as its cold we're usually okay with the taste. That way you don't have to carry around a bottle. I don't like carrying around a ton of stuff especially when its hot and muggy. Plus, when its hot it was easy for the two of us to finish it quickly and toss the cup!

For my trip I am having a case of water shipped via staples.com. It should be at the resort when I arrive and the shipping is free.

    Post water bottle

I usually carry a water bottle around and fill it up from the fountains - it's cold water and saves some plastic from going to the dump. You can get a Camelbak bottle which is more permanent - they come in .5 liter, .75 liter, and 1 liter

If you're really concerned about taste, invest in a Katadyn filtered bottle. A little pricey, but better than hauling a case of bottled water around.

Did staples.com reinstate free shipping??? It used to have free shipping as long as you belonged to their "club," but that ended a while ago, maybe as long as a year ago. Did they reinstate that?

At the present time, according to the staples.com website, they offer free shippingonly for orders of $50 or more ... otherwise they charge a flat rate of $9.95 for shipping anything.

I completely agree with the "green" issue of all those plastic water bottles.I think it has become a habit or obsession. Am I the only one who has seen all those taste tests done with bottled water versus tap water from many cities and not a single person could tell the difference.
If you insist on filtering your own water than please bring a reusable or better yet the new metal water bottles that are available.
But paying to ship water bottles to WDW with some many other/better options seems very unmagical to me. JMHO

A friend of mine is leaving on Monday and she's going to check the onsite Hess gas stations to see what they carry for bottled water. If they do have it there you could catch a bus to DTD and bring a rolling suitcase and buy it there and take it back to your hotel.
And I also just checked Staples and there is a flat rate delivery fee of $9.95 for less than a $50 purchase.
And Garden Grocer and all of them also have a delivery charge that might make it too expensive it you just want water.
