When you arrive for your trip, you can upgrade your tickets to an annual pass if you would like to do that - you need to make the upgrade within 14 days of the day you first use your ticket.

But it is best to upgrade before you use any days on your ticket, other wise you actually lose money. You actually pay for days left, and they don't count days used.

I was under the impression from other questions like this that all you do is pay the difference between the two tickets. They don't take off money for days already used. In fact, I read once that if there has been a price increase from the ticket purchased on the package and when you go it is actually to your advantage if you use the ticket. If you use the ticket then upgrade they will base the value of the ticket on the current gate prices.

I concur with wdwnomad. This is not a true statement.
When you upgrade, you get full credit for all days and options from your original Magic Your Way pass whether they are used or unused. There are three key points to keep in mind.
1. As stated by faline, you have to do the upgrade within 14 days of first use.
2. Your AP anniversary date will be the date of first use of the original MYW ticket...not the date you perform the upgrade.
3. If you have the Water Park Fun & More option on your MYW ticket, you can only upgrade to a Premium Annual Pass.
There is a provision for upgrading unused days of a no expire MYW to an AP after the 14 day period. In this case you only get credit for the unused days and the AP anniversary date is date of the upgrade.
The rationale for crediting for used days on an upgrade is an incentive for committing to come back more often. If you go to Disney World and buy a one day MYW then decide you want to come back to the parks for three more days, they don't want you to have to start over by buying a new three day MYW. They want to make it like you bought a four day MYW from the beginning. So when you upgrade even after using the one day pass, it's just like getting your money back for the one day and buying a four day at full price...but with one of the days already used. That's how the used days are factored in.
Then if you turn around after using all four days of your upgraded MYW and decide that you had so much fun you now want an Annual Pass, you can. As long as you do it within the 14 day upgrade window, you get credit for the four day MYW applied to your AP purchase. Your anniversary date will be the date you first used the original one day MYW. That's how your used days get factored in here. Remember, they make it like you bought the AP from the beginning.

Thank you so much for the information..you spelled it all out for me and it makes sense. I think this is what we will do as we are coming back again at Thanksgiving, and again next summer. It will be smarter for us to upgrade.
