Why have I not broken that thing?

Alright... last week was the blood blister and slicing my ring finger on my "picking hand", and playing 3 staright shows without it having properly healed didn't make it any better.
Yesterday though, while loading equipment in my van (by myself since my usual road crew... Lady Ice... was out of town) I opened the sliding door partially, not taking into account that my van was parked on a slope, and the door slid back shut on my index finger of my "strumming hand". The entire joint section closest to the hand is still swollen, tender, stiff and turned purple this morning.
My fingertips on my left hand are just stiff/numb from playing so much lately... especially having to bear down on my 12 string for 3 days.

That's what I did.
