    Default Ok, personal question here....

Heat rash- Well, I figured if I could ask anyone, someone here could help me. This would be for the men, but the women might be able to help as well. My DS 12 has a problem every time we go to theme parks! We hit the water rides, (or just from the heat even) and by the end of the day, he's walking like a duck! (He would kill me if he saw me writing this!) He gets a rash so bad he's crying by the end of the night. Poor baby, I feel so bad for him! I always bring baby powder along, but is there something else I could actually buy for this? When we went to NYC in July with friends, our male friend had the same problem! You should have seen him walking through Times Square! I know there are men who can relate to this! We leave next week for DW, so thanks for any tips!

Don't worry about your son and my husband would kill me if he knew I was writing this....lol. Baby powder is great but desitin is better or so my husband says.

I'm sorry I don't have any answers. I just bring some baby powder but make sure it's the one with cornstarch-- it really seems to help. I think prevention is best (if that's possible) but I've been a single mom so I sound a lot like you do. I have a son who walks slower and more like a cowboy whenever the weather is warmer at Disney. Last Oct. I packed the powder and if eyes could kill.... Yes, he would disown me if he know I was even commenting here. I feel for both of you and hoping maybe we could all learn something.

    Your are not alone
I always bring a travel size baby powder With corn starch, everytime we use the bathrooms just powder for prevention.

I know there is also something called body glide that runners and such use and I've heard great things about it but my boy's wouldn't use it .
It looks like deoderant and you "glide it on your thighs and it prevents that friction rash.
It is sold at Eastern mountain sports and the likes.

The only thing that helps a guy I know who suffers from this problem is vaseline petroleum jelly or the runners glide stuff might do it. Powders, even with corn starch, don't do quite enough, apparently. I think Desitin would be along the same lines, a thick lotion layer that stays in place. Another solution is to wear a moisture wicking running tights type short under the regular pants or shorts.

I, as well as both of my sons, swear by straight from the box corn starch.
I can't imagine much worse than having four pizza ovens, a grill and a fryer going in July and August.
The corn starch works like a charm for them.

The body glide stuff is AWESOME!!! I bought some at a running store, and I never go to Disney without it. It beats the heck out of any powder.

I have never heard of body glide but I am going to get some for my husband! He has this issue sometimes.
My daughter and I have had problems if we wear jeans and then get on a water ride!
Diaper ointment or zinc oxide cream works really well but you can def. tell you have it on. It helps to put it on at night before bed to soothe any rash that popped up that day.

The body glide sounds promising, I would give that a try!

The runner's body glide and Desitin are both excellent (I use them occasionally when I play hockey and have never had a problem). However, the one thing I found that REALLY helps without being messy is I wear biking shorts (sometimes called compression shorts) under my jeans. These are the tight fitting, smooth material that wicks away the moisture. I've never had a heat rash problem wearing that and I used to get it all the time.

I get heat rash too. It is extremely painful and not fun. I use Vaseline Petroleum gel. It works perfectly. I would bet there are other things out there runners will know about.

I use Caldesene powder, comes in a pink container. Been using it for years and I swear by it. Really keeps it dry.

Last time I had to treat heat rash, I used a generic antifungal cream (clotrimazole) for athlete's foot or yeast infections. It worked wonders overnight in healing it. I also used regular baby powder. I'm buying Body Glide for our next trip.

My SIL and BIL are marathon runners and bikers. They swear by that runners glide stuff. I don't think they sell it in regualr stores though, you might have to order it online.

Body Glide is excellent stuff. Not all sporting goods stores carry it though. Sometimes some of the specialty stores carry it (we've found it at a biking store before), but I've found for us it's easier to just order it online from drugstore.com.

Ben would kill me if I told this.....but he had the same problem last August. We stopped in the baby station and bought a tube of Balmex, it has zinc in it, like diaper rash cream. Within just a few minutes, the pain was gone and he wasn't walking like a duck anymore. It was only a couple of bucks for the tube. It worked great. He applied it everyday before we left the room and carried it with him to reapply, no more problems.

I know there is a product called Boudreaux's Butt Paste! (I know, funny name, right)? Anyway you can find it at Target and Wally World! Good Luck!
