Interesting... We lucked out in that we were on the Safari at about 2 pm that same afternoon (Feb. 10th) with our fast passes.
Had a GREAT front row view--seeing the exact same thing the driver was seeing as he was calling out the animals.
I feel badly for those who missed out of a Safari a short time later!
What do you do if your near the rinos,crocks,hippos or some other dangerous animals if this happens.Where do you run to. Id be a little nervous if I had to get out and run.

As is my understanding, only the animals that are herbivores are actually "free-roaming" (in a very loose sense, they're still confined to their own range area). All the "dangerous" animals are actually separated from the guests by very well-hidden fences and other methods, so obviously if you had to get out I think you'd be just fine.
