    Default $200 RT to Vegas

Is that good? OK? Can one do better? It would be for sometime in April.

That sounds like a good deal to me, at least from my perspective. I've been keeping track of air fares for the last few months from Houston to Las Vegas and they never seem to dip much below $300 RT. But I think ticket prices to/from Las Vegas are generally cheaper from the East Coast and Midwest.

That's a really good deal. Which airline? I'm waiting for Southwest to open through June so we can book. I hope you have hotel reservations already for April. That month can be a bit pricey out there as there are a lot of conventions then.

It was SW. As far as hotel, we are trying to decide between Treasure Island, Luxor and Mirage. Not sure which is more kid friendly.

I like the Luxor the most. We stayed at the Ventian in Oct and that was the nicest place we have EVER stayed in. It's an all Suites hotel so the rooms are huge. Not like staying in a hotel room at all. We stayed at Treasure Island before and it was very nice and kid friendly but now the kid friendly is gone. The Luxor has many things for the kids to do right in the hotel plus you are right near the Mandalay and MGM which also has kid attractions.

Speaking of the Mandalay if your kids like water parks you might want to consider that hotel. It has a wave pool and lazy river and we saw them from inside the hotel and they looked like ALOT of fun.

By the way $200 is a great price.

Thanks so much for the info. We actually were leaning towards the Luxor. Good to hear this about it. That wave pool at Mandalay sounds like so much fun. The suites at the Venetian sound really nice. But I have a feeling they are out of my budet. I may just go on their site and get a quote, though. Thanks again.

My parents always stay at the Luxor for a couple nights on their way to Yellowstone. They really like it, my dad has even gotten them to upgrade them to a better room.

The Luxor has the King Tut Museum, 3 rides that go along with the hotel's theme and an IMAX with a couple of different movies shown each day. All of that is on the same floor. The themeing of the casino and hotel is really cool and they do a great job carrying it all the way.

My favorites were the Venetian, Luxor and Mandalay. For the kids the Excaliber had a Knights of the Round Table Show that was excellent but stay clear of the "boardwalk" games. It is old and dirty in there and most of the games don't work. It really needs a rehab.
Mystere at Treasure Island is another great show that you can see with the kids. All need advance tickets.

If you need any other ideas of family things to do I posted on trip reports back in Oct all we did.

If you have any questions let me know.

I love the Venetian. My stay at the Luxor was very bad - poor customer service.

Out of your three choices, I think the Mirage would be good for the kids - animals to see. Have you checked out Circus Circus? It has a mini-theme park inside along with circus "acts". It's was a little more on the inexpensive side too, when we were there.

I just did a quick price comparison Circus Circus vs. Luxor for 3 days in April (check in 9th, check out 12). Circus Circus was less than half of the Luxor's price.
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I don't think $200 is bad to Vegas, but I do know that out of RDU, just yesterday, they had ding fares for $77 each way for Jan. My sister is going out there in 2 wks for a wedding & got a credit for the difference.

I so enjoyed reading your trip report again...lol...But I don't believe you mentioned any restaurants you ate at. What is good out there? Thanks.

We mostly ate at modately priced prices, nothing too fancy. My husband has simple taste and I am a vegetarian so usually gourmet restaurants are out of the question. We mostly ate one big meal a day and did the Venetian food court for the other meal. Their food court was really good. There was such a selection of foods and it was all very fresh. They had a food court at casino level and one upstairs.

If you do go into the Venetian make sure you get the gelati. They have two stations. One is in the food court on the casino level and the other is in the Canal Shoppes area. It is out of this world. My husband got a different flavor every night. I liked the Cinnamon, Banana, and Raspberry Flavors. It's not cheap thou

For Breakfast we either had room service (way way overpriced) or got something at the food court.

Here is what I can remember:

Le Cafe St Louis (Paris) Dinner. I actually got Italian food and it was very good! They had half portions which I appricaiated.

Grand Lux Cafe (Venetian) Breakfast & Lunches. This place is own by the owners of the Cheesecake Factory. If you have ever been to one (you can't count the one in Disney because it's not a restaurant just counter service) you know it has one of the biggest menu on earth and the food is very good. Every meal there was good!

Rainforest Cafe (MGM) Lunch Same as other locations a fun place and food is decent just a little overpriced.

Cravings (Mirage) Buffet Lunch I have to say I was disappionted with this buffet. The food wasn't bad but I was expecting so much more.
They had different stations representing different countries or regions. I can't explain it but I know what we spent was much much more than we ate. I was also disappointed in the dessert section. I guess I watch too much of the Food Channel

One day we ate at Hoover Dam.

One night it was the dinner show at the Excaliber (the food was OK but the entertainment was a blast)

I know we ate at other places but can't think of them right now. Besides the buffet I liked all of the places we ate but for this vacation at least it wasn't the hilight of the trip.

***We had planned on eating at the Rio Buffet because it looked like it would be a good place for us and it had great reviews. When I looked of the map at home it looked like a couple of blocks from the Mirage. Wrong! If we walked we would have had to cross over the highway and a taxi ride would have cost us at least $15 roundtrip. Of course I didn't realize this until we were done going thur the Mirage attractions and we were starving. That is how we ended up going to Cravings. It wasn't planned. In fact besides the Rio (which we never made it to) I didn't plan on any specific places to eat because I never knew where we would be from day to day.

Thanks again. Those restaurants sound really good. And the gelati sounds especially good. So since we plan on doing the gondulas I will definitely get some while there. I think a lot of our eating choices are going to go towards more places like Rainforest, Margaritaville and Hard Rock, to name a few. For us places that we are more familiar with. But I also liked reading about your GC stay we were looking to stay at a Best Western out there. But I'm not even sure if I will do that since I will be the only driver. 5 hours can be long. But your hotel out there sounded really nice. It makes me want to rethink going to the GC. Thanks

We didn't go to the Hard Rock this time but we did the last time and we drove. If I remember correctly it's off the strip a little ways and the neighborhood you have to walk thur isn't the greatest.

The Grand Canyon was a sight not to miss and if you think this may be the only time you will be going out that way I would try to make it. It was a 5 hour drive but it seemed to go by fairly quickly. I just would make sure you were leaving early enough not to be driving there in the dark. There are not many lights on the way.

That makes sense since the last time I went to Vegas was 10 years ago...lol. And we were supposed to do GC then. But that's what happens with friends and 10 years younger...lol. Anyway, I'll just have to really look into it. As far as the Hard Rock we were just going to do a cab. The same for Bahama Breeze (forgot to mention), because I believe they are both off strip. Thanks
