AKV!!!! Yay to all Naysayers!
Just got off the phone with Member Services to book those extra 3 days I talked about a couple of months back.
7 month window for Feb 27th-March 1st 2008. I called with the complete expectation to have no AKV availability. The informed me they had room in ALL CLASSES ( I didn't have enough points for a savannah view, but still! ).
So I'm very excited!

Well we needed two studios and with the points we had left we got two studios with "Standard" view. We could have gotten Value as those are opening Dec 1st. But whatever, I would like to enjoy the view as much as possible

TRICIA JONES: I heard that you were going to propose to Brandi Svenning at some theme park. When are men going to learn that women want ROMANCE, not Mr. Toad's Wild Ride...
BRODIE: Hey, now, be fair. EVERYONE wants Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

I had no problems booking AKLV for the 3rd week of March, 2008. I am so excited to be going back to AKL, we went in 12/2005 before we were DVC members and loved it. This time we did get the Savannah View in the Villas. This might be the only time we get to go, when everyone finds out they will be booked solid.
I am so glad the first resort we wanted was not avaliable because I am looking forward to being on the Savannah!!!!

Not to kill anyone's fever over this...
But Animal Kingdom is NOT going to be difficult to get.....it will fall far closer to the SSR and OKW volume than it will WL and BCV.....
Disney has had an incredibly hard time selling Animal Kingdom Lodge since the day it opened. If you follow the resort's history closely....they reduced the price in it's second year....they almost always have had discounts available at AKV over the majority of other Deluxes....and it is a frequent locations for "bumps" (i.e. relocation from other locations due to overselling, maintenance, construction, and complaint issue). I worked in Disney Resort Ops during AKLs first 2 years of operation and monitored its "issues" first hand.
It makes perfect sense that they are builiding a huge DVC portion at AKV....they know that it will get a high percentage of guaranteed use by DVC...
...But I would expect a waitlist the size of my driveway to result.
There are many reasons why the site has not been that popular....check that..."theories"...why this is so.
The most popular ones being "It's so far out" and "Who wants to stay in a zoo?"
I personally...don't think its really either of those....but we all have our own opinions.
If everyone will take a look...the point values at AKV are significantly lower based on the year it's opening as compared to the other resorts....you are getting more for your point value than you have at any locations since Hilton Head and Vero Beach.
The good news for all of us is that AKV is a great location if you give it a try...it may be the best value of any dvc location.

I hope usage stays low at least until next July.
We are hoping to get 2 nites at the concierge level as part of our daughter's HS graduation present when we make our annual trip to WDW next June.
35+ trips to WDW since 1985...and it never gets old.
