    Default Anyone else hate ponchos??

When we were at DW 2 years ago, we went prepared for the frequent and fast moving t-storms typical in the summer. We brought cheap ponchos from the Dollar Store, and also some better quality ones.

We hated them all! We were incredibly hot and sticky underneath and soon discovered that we preferred running for cover and getting wet rather than suffocating in the ponchos.

Is there anyone else that feels the same way, or are we the only wierd ones?

I'm not even packing any for our trip in just 4 days - woohoo!

Yes, I dislike ponchos too. Living in Texas I always carry a small travel umbrella that opens to full size with me. So, I just bring it along to WDW with me. It's way better than a phonco for me.

I like a poncho for Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain (simply because I don't like getting wet on rides). Otherwise, I don't care for ponchos either. You do get sticky and hot underneath. I'd rather dash for cover as well.

Only worn a poncho once and it was HOT. Most of the times we just stroll along, unless it's a HEAVY downpour, enjoying the rain. Once at downtown Disney it was raining and we were enjoying going from store to store. The stores were all busy with people holed up out of the rain, but DW and I enjoyed a people free walking area. Just the two of us. It was actully quite romantic.

I never wear ponchos and I never will (for any reason). I actually just prefer to get wet and then have the sun, which will be out in a half hour, to dry me off. No harm done. Last year as I left the Kali River Rapids ( I was already wet) we had a downpour and I got TOTALLY soaked from head to toe. I laughed! It was great! We left AK, got showered and headed to DTD for a great meal and some PI fun.

I hate them too but, I will use them if it is an all day rain. We don't bother if it is just a quick FL shower.

We bring one just for DD's stroller. That is a must do. If it is raining I put it over the stroller so her seat and our stuff stays dry.

They are far better than umbrellas, not to mention safer.

There is nothing more dangerous that shoulder to shoulder crowds and a bunch of umbrellas carried by inattentive guests.

I don't think there is anyone on the planet who actually enjoys wearing them. I don't like to wear them, but I will wear them so I can keep enjoying the park without getting too soaked. I hate walking around in wet clothes, so I'd rather just wear a poncho for a few minutes while I wait for the sun to come back out.

I do not like wearing the ponchos also. It doesn't matter how hard it is raining, I just walk through the rain. I doesn't bother me to be wet because you dry off so quick being out in the sun and heat.

    As I like to say:

"Ain't you never taken a shower before?"

The rain is fine... I've gone mountain biking in severe thunderstorms, a little water in WDW isn't gonna hurt nobody.

Not a big fan here, but will wear them if I have to. I really hate it when they start to rip at the neck hole, and it just gets bigger and you just get wetter...

If the weather is cooler and the rain is an all-day deal, I'll consider the poncho but if it's hot and it's the typical afternoon thundershower, I ain't wearing no stinkin' poncho (cause after, I'll be the one stinkin')! They are hot and miserable and uncomfortable. I hate them too.

I think it depends on how warm it is and how long its been raining. We went in December once and did ponchos just because of the temperature. Than one June we just delt with the rain for the first couple of days and tried to duck under cover but it rained everyday consistently so by the end of the week we had our ponchos and just stayed in the rain and saw everything we wanted with everyone hiding from the rain.

    Thumbs down Yuck!

We have tried all types of ponchos and the result is always the same. Trash can 2 minutes later.

We take our light weight jackets if it is an all day rain. Eddie Bauer makes one that folds up into its own pocket. Very easy to take around.

I think it depends on the time of year that you are using them. I can not stand to wear them during the summer months--hot and sticky pretty much sums up that feeling. However, if it is in the cooler months or at night, when I might have a light sweater on, I don't mind wearing them so much. I just got back from Disney a few days ago and with 96+ heat, I welcomed the rain with open (non-poncho-covered) arms.

We always take them, some of the heavier Mickey ones and some cheap ones from the Dollar Store. We use them to cover up the stroller, babies, and our packages or purses. Sometimes we wear them and sometimes not, just depends on how heavy the rain is. With our ponchos, we don't have to wait the rain out like others and can go on to our next ride.
