AMEN TO THAT! The other thing that really bothers me as an educator is when people say "You get paid for NOT working in the summer!" Lord, I want to die. They forget that we CHOOSE to get paid over 12 months instead of 9. We choose to have a summer check (same pay just stretched out so we do not die of starvation in the summer months), we most certainly are NOT being paid for doing nothing.

In Miami-Dade County Florida, we get 10 sick days per year and 6 of them are personal days. In my school, as long as it isn't during testing time, we are allowed to use those personal and sick days any way we want. I have been to WDW 4 long weekends during this school year and have used 4 of my personal days. I NEVER go during regular vacation times or holiday weekends because it is too busy. We also get to Opt-Out of 2 teacher workdays(the days when the kids are off, but we work) so I use 2 of those that land on Friday or Monday to go for long weekends. We get to Opt Out because we have the choice to work 2 extra days in the beginning of the school year to set up and whatnot where we don't get paid.

For example, in October there's always a teacher workday on a Friday that I opt out of every year. Then I take a personal day on Monday. Right there I can leave Thursday after work and stay 4 nights for the Food and Wine Festival. I do that every year.

I also live very close, but I could take a week off for a vacation if I want as long as I have the personal days available and it's not a hectic time of the school year.

No it's not. After taxes, it's more like $500 a week. My husband was making that when he worked at Best Buy and he didn't even graduate high school.

Actually the math is correct. I did not take out taxes because taxes vary depending on where you live, whether you file single, married, the number of deductions etc. Also, in MA they do not take out SS, the money goes into a type of 401ish account. So I stand by my math!!!!!!

Also, $34,000 per year to start fresh out of college is a good starting pay.

If your husband was making $16.35 per hour at best buy and didn't graduate high school that is a really good paying job,

BTW,I did the math as $634.00 divided by 40 hours
