It means wear what you would to the parks. Shorts, t-shirts, jeans, sweatshirt, anything is fine as long as it doesn't have anything offensive on it.

I hadn't heard of a "dress code" for anything but the signature places, like California Grill! We've been there in shorts and flip flops (park fare, not Cali) and didn't feel out of place.
Went last year and loved it. Just in jeans and a t-shirt. Same for the rest of the family.

Dress like you want to. If your prince or princess wants to dress up- let them.
There are lots of photo ops and looking nice for pictures is great (we just did it a few days ago).

Anything goes, really. Lots of kids were dressed in costume, most just wore park attire, my one DD wore a sundress., but that's her usual Disney attire. Even to the parks!
