As the summer dies down more and more events seem to pop up at our favorite
vacation destination. Some of the year’s most popular events are coming up,
and new information has been released regarding both. Keep on reading to see
what’s to come and what members have had to say about it.
- Candlelight Processional narrators announced -
The Candlelight Processional will take place this year from November 25th
until December 30th and will feature narrators such as Haley Joel Osment and
Eartha Kitt. This year’s prices for the dinner packages range from $30.99 to
$45.99 for adults. Tickets go on sale on August 15th and can be bought by
calling 407-WDW-DINE.
“I think it would be cool to hear it read by Haley Joel Osmet. That kid is
an awesome actor, and xmas time to me means kids and presents and santa and
whatnot.” –firefan43
“WOW, what a lineup.” –Marilyn Michetti
“I don't think you can go wrong with whoever you pick really.” –DisneyKim22

Bytes & Pieces –
On this trip to WDW, my travel party consisted of me, DW, DD, DS, FIL and
MIL. After we landed at MCO, DME took us to our favorite WDW resort, POFQ.
We then checked in and got our DDE vouchers from the CM. Our room wasn’t
ready so we took the bus to DtD for a quick lunch at the RFC and some
shopping at WoD and OUaT. Our room was now ready, so we dropped off our
goodies and headed off to MK where we did HM, BTMRR, CoP, SM and SplM. We
had dinner at CP. Since it was an EMH night we stayed and watched Wishes.
If you’re new to INTERCOT (or even if you’re not), you’re probably wondering
what I just said…maybe you were thinking that I was speaking in some code.
Actually, in this example of a post we’re talking about Orlando
International Airport, Disney’s Magical Express, the Port Orleans French
Quarter, and Disney’s Dining Experience among other things. And in a way, I
was talking in a code…Disney Abbreviations. Abbreviations, wonderful things
to those educated in the jargon, but very confusing, especially if overused
to the uninformed.
Luckily, INTERCOT has a glossary of common abbreviations that the staff have
experienced on the boards…What
Does it all Mean? to help decipher the “Disney Codes”. While reading the
boards, if you run across an abbreviation that you don’t understand or can’t
figure out, I encourage you to ask or check out the link above.
For those writing posts on the boards we have a few pointers so as to
alleviate the confusion of others. Ideally, if you could avoid using
abbreviations all together, that would be the ultimate solution to the
confusion. If you feel that you need to use some abbreviations, we ask that
you initially use the full term and then use the abbreviation later in your
post.
Another form of shorthand is sometimes seen on the boards…the use of “text
message” style writing. While this may seem convenient to the people using
them…to many of our members who don’t use text messaging, these shortcuts
tend to make some posts or portions of posts unreadable. So, we as a staff
strongly discourage the use of text message shorthand while posting on the
boards.
We need to be aware INTERCOT’s membership covers a very diverse landscape.
We have members with all sorts of backgrounds…American and non-American,
technologically savvy and those that aren’t. We also need to remember that
we see new members everyday…members that may be new to Disney and all the
jargon. Sometimes if we think “Inside Disney” too much, we scare off these
people, feeling that that they will be thought of as stupid for not knowing
what’s being talked about. So, we ask you to think of everyone when you
post…because INTERCOT is about including everyone into the discussion of
Disney and Walt Disney World.

Donald's
Family Tree
I suspect that some of you are a little confused about Donald Duck and his
relationships with other residents of Duckburg. Well, sit back and relax.
I’m here to clear it all up for you.
Donald Fauntleroy Duck (yes, Fauntleroy) first appeared in The Wise Little
Hen in 1934. Donald’s parents are Quackmore Duck and Hortense McDuck. His
grandparents are Humperdink Grampa Duck and Elvira Grandma Duck Coot, who is
a descendant of Duckburg’s founder, Cornelius Coot.
Over the years we have learned that Donald is the nephew on his mothers side
of Scrooge McDuck, and Donald has a girlfriend named Daisy. His first
girlfriend was Donna Duck, Daisy’s older sister, who first appeared in Don
Donald in 1937. Daisy became his girlfriend in Mr. Duck Steps Out in 1940.
Donald’s lucky cousin, Gladstone Gander, is a rival who has also dated
Daisy. Donald has a twin sister, Della Thelma Duck, whose nickname is
Dumbella. She is married to Daisy’s brother (not named) and is the mother of
Donald’s nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Daisy has two aunts, Matilda and
Drusilla. Her sister, Donna, is the mother of Daisy’s nieces, April, May and
June.
There. Now you can clearly see how everyone is related. You’re welcome.

<< Dining with
MickeysGirl and Dr_Nigel_C >>
Welcome all you beach partiers! Hope everyone is ready for this month’s fun
in the sun filled issue of Dining Out! This month, we are focusing on some
casual, but not to be missed, resort dining at Beaches and Cream. As one of
the many of the unique dining experiences that can be found at Walt Disney
World, Beaches and Cream throws you back to yesteryear to the days of poodle
skirts and cool cruisers. The theming is that of an old time soda fountain,
complete with real cherries in your Cherry Coke! Located at the Beach Club
Resort, no admission is required to get in. If you choose to drive over,
just simply inform the gentleman at the gate and he will let you through.
You can also gain access through the Friendship Boats that run between
Epcot, the Yacht Club, Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin resorts. Sorry Advanced
Dining Reservations (ADR) are not accepted at this restaurant, and the
seating is limited so make sure you get there early. One tip is to plan your
meal slightly before or after “regular” meal times, your wait will not be
quite as long. For those more interested in eating in their rooms or by the
pool, Take out Service is also available.
If you are wondering what kind of food you might find at a soda fountain,
well let us tell you…
Soda Fountain Food! You can get an array of sandwiches, burgers, hot
dogs, sodas, shakes, onion rings and they are all excellent! We’ve tried
many a burger, and we think this place has the best burgers on Disney
property! Yummy! And of course, don’t forget about the ice cream! You can
order ice cream, shakes, floats, sundaes and banana splits; that is if you
have room left! This is also the home of the illusive “Kitchen
Sink”! More ice cream and brownies than many groups could think to
handle, plus an entire can of whipped cream! We saw a couple of brave souls
trying to put a dent in this place on our last visit. Wonder how that worked
out? Anyway… The cost of an adult meal here will run around $10 per entrée,
kids meals around $6, and desserts between $5-10, unless you want the
Kitchen Sink, that’s a bit more. This restaurant also accepts both the
Magic Your Way with Dining Plan and the
Disney Dining Experience Card.
This is a restaurant that is fun for the whole family. If you are a couple
out for a stroll on the beach, you can go in and share a thick chocolate
shake with two straws in a booth all to yourself. If you have the kids with
you they might take one look at the menu and hope that mom and dad will let
them have their dessert first (or maybe instead of) their meal! Also, it’s
very convenient to the surrounding Yacht Club and Boardwalk resorts or a
nice stroll over from Epcot’s International Gateway. Any way you look at it
is a great way to get a break from the heat, take a trip back in time and
chill out in a cool place! Hope you all enjoy your next trip to Beaches and
Cream. Happy dining!

I hope that all of
our INTERCOTees had a happy and safe Fourth of July! Our members spent the
holiday in diverse ways. Most INTERCOTees did the usual – cookouts,
fireworks, traveling and boating, while some unfortunate souls like
MauiMouse, STADIS and Mscholl13 had to work. A few lucky members like
Alligirl and Terra spent some quality time in WDW!
According to Lizzy’s Celebrations, July was American Beer Month, National
Doghouse Repairs Month, Women’s Motorcycle Month and Cell Phone Courtesy
Month. Other July observances included Air Conditioning Appreciation Week,
Rabbit Week, Hug Week and National Salad Week. Some of the crazier daily
observances were Juggling Day, Embrace Your Geekness Day, Rat Catchers Day
and National Drive Thru Day. Check out Lizzy’s list next month and see how
you can better improve your August!
Fridays just would be the same without INTERCOT’s official Party Hostess
Jamie and the official Cabana Boy of INTERCOT, Nigel. Jamie and Nigel
threw the Annual Fourth of July Bash, the Batten Down the Hatches Hurricane
Party, the Happy 50th Disneyland party, the Fancy Dance Party, and the So
Long Summer Beach Party. Come into the Water Cooler this Friday and start
your weekend out right!
July birthday celebrations were held for: ThisKnee, gonk12, Shell- Belle,

Cast Member, and Amaya-Chan 200 posts. Congratulations to all of you!
I’m cutting it a little short this month because unfortunately the month of
July ended on a sad note for the entire INTERCOT community. As most of you
already know, little Sam Wood lost his battle with leukemia on July 26th.
From Mel: “I just wanted to thank you all for your meaningful and loving
posts and all the support you are giving to our family.” Mel, you know that
you have our deepest sympathy and we are here for you!
That’s about it for July. Sooner than you know it, we’ll be talking about
the kids being back in school and the leaves falling. Enjoy the remainder of
the summer while you have the chance!
