    Default Hurricane Irma

I have a trip scheduled this Fri 9/8 - Mon 9/11 and am monitoring the hurricane. Anyone else with trips planned getting concerned? We're booked at the Boardwalk. It's my understanding we can cancel with no penalty only if a hurricane warning is issued for Orlando, so we're just taking a wait and see approach...

    Default Hurricane Irma

so of course we arrive Saturday just in time for a possible hurricane to hit the state of Fla. anyone ever been to WDW during one? I read last year they ran out of food at the resorts even. we are staying at Beach Club & aren't afraid of some wind & rain so hopefully it's minimal in central fla
Too many trips to keep track of now! Vacation WDW twice a year so any questions ask freely ☺️

Us, too. We're supposed to arrive on Saturday, midday, and we're staying at Old Key West. We've been wondering the same thing. If this thing is supposed to come right up through Florida, could we even get there? Should we try? I think we may have to shorten our trip and come a few days later.

Us too, with an arrival next Wednesday, hopefully it will be passed by then with not too much damage but I know it's going to throw a kink in a lot of plans for people.

We're supposed to arrive on Saturday, about mid-day, but am wondering about the logistics. I have no problem riding out a hurricane at WDW. That's far enough inland that I don't think flooding is an issue, and it should have weakened well below what it is now (but still dangerous).

I'm more concerned about actually getting there ahead of the storm. Of course, if there are evacuations, then we would be stupid trying to go against that, and they would reverse the southbound interstates, would they not?

We were there during Matthew last year and Charley 2004. Matthew was short lived in the Orlando area and WDW closed primarily because the Orange County Sherrif's office had a mandatory curfew. It wasn't long enough to run out of food. There were issues with people paying for box lunches when they were supposed to be free. What they did run out of were things in the shops but food in general no. A lengthier storm might cause more significant problems if they can't resupply quickly but they are contingency planning.

While WDW is reasonably safe Charley did cause damage on property. You can see remnants, although getting harder now, on the right side of the forward motion of the monorail to Epcot. After crossing the highway and in the straight stretch before Epcot you can see a section of the forest with broken trees and the growth is shorter and less dense. It was hit by a Charley spawned tornado and was completely flattened. There are other areas but they are harder to see. If the tornado had hit buildings who knows. WDW is safe but there are risks.

At some point, airlines will likely begin to cancel flights so if you are flying, the choice might be made for you. Disney has specific processes in place for dealing with hurricanes. The most important part is for everyone to stay safe.

While they technically didn't run out of food during Matthew people were waiting 2-3 hours to get a meal at 1900 Park Faire (we were at the Villas at GF) which other than the $15 turkey sandwich and chips was the only thing open. We were able to cook and make do with what we had but I felt terrible for those with little children. We actually saw people sneaking out to walk to the Poly to try to get something to eat.

All this stinks !!! We are heading down tomorrow morning, only staying 3 nights, then had plans to stay with friends in Daytona through the next week. I'm wondering, do we ride it out with them, hopeful of little to no damage, or head home Saturday or Sunday (with scores of evacuees) .... gotta love planning a late summer time in Florida ....

Leaving Sunday, hopefully it turns out to sea as some models say

I hadn't seen the storm track in a while, none of the models are looking good.

Same boat as many of you. Heading down Saturday, arriving mid-day. Staying the entire week. Am really, really hoping this misses FL entirely. The sea can keep it. No more hurricane damage for anyone! Am trying to remain positive and while I know this is a category 5 storm right now, am hoping a lot of this is hype on the heels of Harvey. My plan is to still arrive on Saturday, providing flight isn't canceled. If it does hit FL, it's not expected to hit until Sunday.

For anyone flying JetBlue, they are waiving change fees for flights in and out of MCO on Saturday and Sunday.

The 2:00 EST report shows it moving more westward and possibly into the Gulf. The lower Keys (Key West area) look to get a direct hit at this point. Whether it turns to the north at that point or keeps a more westerly track is up for grabs. Keep your eyes open for reports on the track. It's showing a lot of the same patterns as Charley, which went up the gulf coast and turned sharply northeast up the Peace River at Port Charlotte. As a Cat 4 storm, it could intensify as it reaches the warmer waters of the Gulf.

    Whatever happens, be safe!

I Decided not to take any chances, regardless of the weather in Orlando this weekend I have a feeling the flights into MCO will still be cancelled or delayed due to Irma especially on Sunday.

I took advantage of JetBlue's no fee policy due to the hurricane and switched my flight from Sunday morning up to Friday morning. I just added two nights at Port Orleans Riverside at the beginning of the trip for Friday night and Saturday night, we will switch to SSR on Sunday

And Irma, will be much bigger of a storm, might roll right up the state, though hard to tell. But, much stronger storm.
