Default Poly in June. What will be under construction??

We are staying for part of our stay at the Poly. My favorite and I am wondering what will be under construction then?? Is the beach area still open for viewing fireworks and water parade and will the main pool still be open?? I understand the check in area is already under construction. I will miss the beautiful floral area

The pool won't close until July 28 at the earliest.

Not much will be closed in July other than some work going on in the GCH but nothing will be closed.

I'm happy to email you the schedule that was given to the Polynesian staff that says late July. I was told the date they are shooting for is July 28. Either way it will be open in June and early July.

Not doubting you info. Just passing on what the agent said.
A little put out that central booking has wrong information.
But only one person was pushing for Polynesian, 2 wanted akl. Plus I saved $120//ight.

In the last few days they have changed some of the plans and decided to convert Tokelau to DVC also. They have cleared out the rooms in Tokelau and today it seems they are closing off the entire east end of the resort with walls. This will close off those 3 longhouses and the building with the laundry (the old Tangaroa Terrace) so laundry will not be available at the resort. Also the path to walk to and from the TTC is closed and there is no estimated time for it to be accessible again. There also closing off more of the Great Ceremonial House and working on paths around Rarotonga limiting areas you can walk around the resort.

Thanks for the info! I love the Poly, but this is not a great time at all to be there.

That all just stinks! I love Tokelau and hope they don't make it part of the DVC. The Poly is our favorite but we won't be staying there until they finish everything. We pay too much to have to work around all the construction. We have almost decided that the Beach Club is our new favorite except they don't have the monorail. But they do have boats! I'm rather upset that they think they have to keep adding to or changing the resorts and adding DVC to everything.

Big changes happening now, according to Tikiman's Facebook page. The fountain was shut off and walls are going up around the second floor of the atrium.

Here's one of his reports from today:

"Jeremiah reported that the waterfall was being shut down last night. No lights on and more walls up inside and outside Captain Cooks. I'm told to expect limited travel in the GCH due to walls going up and to allow equipment to come in. I would expect to see the temporary check in to start being constructed soon."

Check out photos on TIkiman's Unofficial Polynesian Resort Pages on Facebook.

Ok, this thread has got to the point where I don't see why Disney just didn't mothball the place, allowing for rapid remodeling and construction to take place, and get back in business in record time without all of this "stripping" of things that make the Poly the Poly. Seriously, it wouldn't be the first time Disney shuttered a resort, and would have probably saved them a ton of guest complaints over the next many months.

I can't imagine paying Deluxe prices for the Poly given what a shell of itself it sounds like it is now and in the interim.

I agree. We love the Poly but won't be putting out the money to stay there and have to work around all the construction that takes away the magic. There are other places to stay. They should just shut down the whole thing and get the construction done.

We decided to stay there next month because its still our "home" while in WDW. The construction is history, and we'll see it in progress, and watch it change in front of our eyes. I'm not worried about it. They are not going to let it interfere with our stay, cause that's just how Disney does it.

I don't know Lisa! The pictures I keep seeing online look awful. The resort looks to be a mess right now. And they have also started work on the GCH. You may want to check out some of Tikiman's stuff. He has lots of updates and pics. Even if just to give you an idea of what to expect when you get there.

I guess I'm in the minority. I actually requested a room facing the beach construction. I'm such a nerd, I want to see it change before me. I'm ok with mess, because you gotta break things down in order to make it more beautiful in the future. I'm on board with all of it. I've loved the Poly since the 1970's!! So I'm in, no matter what face it takes on.
