    Default Galveston Cruise Info

We are thinking about taking our first cruise ever... so we have a few questions.
I keep seeing where you can take alcohol on board in a carry on but nothing really specific about your luggage.
Do you check in your luggage and then go through security before boarding?
If so, how long does it take them to get your luggage to your room?
Does anyone know about parking at the port of Galveston?
Has anyone gone in October? what is best to pack for a 7 day cruise?
What are some "must have" items you pack for a cruise?
I thought I read somewhere where you can "pre-pay" your expected tips for the cruise...is this true and where do we do that?
    Any tips would be appreciated.

I can't really answer all the above with any certainty, since DCL has never cruised out of Galveston and I haven't seen any info about the terminal there. Only time will tell. But, for whatever it's worth, here's how it works at Port Canaveral:

    • Yes, you can take alcohol aboard, but ONLY in your carry-on bags. Do not put it in your checked bags. One broken bottle can easily contaminate many other bags stacked under yours.
    • At PC, you drop off your checked bags with porters around the side of the terminal, then take your carry-on bags with you through security. Security at the port is done by private companies, not TSA, so there are not as many restrictions - liquids, gels and aerosols are okay.
    • Your checked bags usually arrive outside your stateroom by about 5pm.
    • Can't help on the parking situation.
    • We've been on Bahamas cruises in October and September. The weather has always been excellent with warm days, warm water and comfortable nights. But do keep in mind that hurricane season runs from June through the end of November.
    • Must-haves will vary from person to person, but the best hint is to not overpack. I always load up on shorts, polo shirts, at least two bathing suits, sunscreen (a MUST), some reading material, and at least a light sweater in case it turns chilly. I also make sure I have my camera battery charger and an extra battery and sufficient memory cards for the camera. Since outlets are somewhat scarce, I take a small power strip so several things can be plugged in at the same time.
    • You can have customary tips added to your onboard account. You'll be given coupons for tips for your reoom steward, head waiter, your primary server and your assistant server. You can arrange this at the Guest Services desk on the thrid deck just off the atrium. If you receive exemplary service, you can specify higher tips, or just add cash to the envelopes along with the coupons.

And here is a web site that might help you with figuring out typical weather in Galveston in October:
