Downtown Disney's Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop to Be Redesigned
Cuhaci & Peterson Inks Redesign Deal for Ghirardelli Store
Orlando Business Journal
January 23, 2008
Cuhaci & Peterson Architects LLC has started work on the redesign the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop in Downtown Disney.
Orlando-based Cuhaci & Peterson is preparing the construction documents for renovations on the 4,015-square-foot store, says Carlos Sobrin, senior project coordinator for Cuhaci & Peterson.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The project entails the addition of a chocolate tower to the roof, flat-screen televisions on the building exterior, signage updates and a complete renovation of the soda fountain area, Sobrin says.
The store is expected to remain open during the renovations, which are scheduled to be completed in March.
The Ghirardelli Chocolate Co., founded in 1852 by an Italian immigrant, is America's longest continuously operating maker of premium chocolates.

Thanks Jason. I think they have been long overdue for an update. Love their chocolate though!

They should have expanded the place to add more seats. That place is always crowded.
Let's stop defending mediocrity out of Disney and hold Disney to the higher standard they set up themselves.

I also agree on the seating. There needs to be more, plus try to limit those who are just "sitting". I'd like to eat my HUGE sundae at a table thanks.

Good to learn about the refurb and yes more seats would be in order.

I was just there President's week and it didn't look like they were doing anything at all to it, either inside or outside . In addition to more seating I hope they redesign the line area--especially putting menus somewhere at the beginning of the line so people don't stop halfway through and hold everyone else up while they read!

1. More seating.
2. More staff - making those desserts is a slow process. It would be nice if it was quicker
3. Better signage to help with menu selection
4. More staff to clean up the dining room. It's always sticky!
Many, many visits since 1973....
