    Day TWO- June 24, Sunday

Our bugler sounded Reveille at 5:45am so we all trudged out of the tents, ate breakfast (cold cereal, bagels, fruit, milk, juice) and made our lunches that we would carry into the parks (sandwiches, granola bars, juice boxes, fruit, etc.) This would become our regular routine for the week.

We were waiting on the Creekside Meadow bus stop at 6:45am. I was a bit nervous for I had been warned that June 24 (today) was the first day of the NEW bus schedule. But at 6:47, our bus arrived . We made all the FW stops and headed to the TTC.

Today at 7:15am we start the first of 10 YES (Youth Educational Series) programs this week. I am expecting today's 2 programs to be my favorites. They are World of Physics, Parts 1 & 2- in the Magic Kingdom. We met Cesar, our first instructor and he would turn out to be our favorite of the whole week. This program is nicknamed the "Roller Coaster Course" and for good reasons- we ride all the mountains before the park opens!! First we discussed the Scientific Method, and then on the monorail trip to MK he explained some other properties of physics, using the monorail's motion as his lab. We played with hot wheels test tracks to discover the properties of height, slope and length of the track. Then we rode Space Mountain- WITH THE LIGHTS ON!!! How cool that was. I think it's actually scarier with the lights on than off- you can really see how close all the tracks are to each other- there is NO wasted space in that building! We went right around to the loading platform again and rode it this time with the lights off. From there- we rode Buzz before the rope drop in Tomorrowland. Then we hiked over to Frontierland and hit Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. For BTMRR Cesar gave the scouts some tasks- several boys had to hold cups of water through the ride and TRY to keep the water in the cup (I think they could have, but they had more fun spilling it on each other!). Some people had acceleration meters and others had G-force meters. I honestly don’t remember any of the measurements, but we did have fun... everyone except the one leader who rode backwards trying to catch the whole thing on video He rode again later in the week for real fun. By this time we were done with Part 1 and we ate our lunch at Tomorrowland Terrace (I think that the name) under the covering.

We met Cesar there again at 11:30 for Part 2. This section had Alien Encounter, Haunted Mansion, TTA. The focus here was waves, where the focus of Part 1 was motion. We learned about the holographic images in HM, and even got to go beneath the ride into the dining room to see how they make the dancing ghosts!! We didn’t get to ride HM though because the line was too long. Contrary to popular belief, these tours DO NOT go to the head of the line and we can’t use Fast Pass either. We have to wait like everyone else. But because they started our program before the park opened (and it wasn't an EE day) we did get to ride early with no lines. We had a few more discussions about physical properties, etc. and our day ended at 2:30 with a round of happy applause for Cesar.

It looks like we're going to enjoy these programs this week... working on Merit Badges was never so much FUN!!

Day 2, part 2 coming soon.

What a great deal of organization this must have taken...coordinating all of the programs, meals, travel...

But, what fun - and lasting memories for you all!
