TRAVELING WITH IN-LAWS

My brother-in-law and his wife and 2 children, that is. Problem is, I'm a type A (I have all my tips, helpful hints, park info., etc. typed out) and I don't know what type they are -- still in their pj's at noon during the summer. Any advice on traveling with others? Me, hubby and own 2 kids are going.

I would say to be prepared to do things separately. Maybe you can plan some meals together or things that happen later in the day(parade, an evening in one of the parks etc.) I would let them know your plan for the day and then ask if and when they would like to meet. You could still get up early and do the things that your family wants to do and then plan to spend time later in the day with everyone. We are going with a party of 14 in 2 weeks and that's what we plan to do.

I took a three-generational, in-law included trip this past June and I have two words of advice: be prepared to travel separately and be patient!!!

Our strategy was to make PS's that we could all agree on and meet up for those. Sometimes we would bump into my family while walking around the park and ride a few things together. Other times we would go our separate ways and just meet at the restaurants.

It's good to have a plan but it is also good to be flexible.

We travel with friends every year and have the same situation. There are just times when we decide on what we are going to do and ask them if they are interested. If not, we just meet up later. It took awhile to get used to (we all felt like we had to stay together all the time ), but neither party is going to change their ways, so we just compromise! Good luck

such good advice - I did not do it that way and I regret it. Mother and I get up early. At 10:30am we were still waiting for them. Boy this time we are leaving and meeting them for meals.

I'll echo the others - - absolutely, positively reach an understanding long before you even get to WDW that you've got your trip all planned out, that they are more than welcome to tag along to take advantage of your expertise, but at the same time EVERYBODY is free to wander off and do their own thing at their own pace. And a lesson I learned the hard way - every evening make sure the others understand what your plans are for the following day, and that they understand that if they are not ready to rock and roll by X o'clock the next morning, it's a case of "See you later - we're outta here."

Trips with adult family members can be a LOT of fun as long as everyone understands the ground rules ahead of time.

I agree with the above totally. We leave on Friday with my in-laws and brother-in-law.

Simple. We have our trip planned in great detail - they don't.

If they want to come along with us, fine.

If they don't, fine also.
