Fav. Deluxe resort and why

Try to be specific. I want to find the right one for me. What about the hammics at the poly. they are outside or what do you rent them how does it work.I love all stars yet can if I want to stay at a delux yet I kind of love allstars so try to sell me on it kay!!

I have yet to stay in a Deluxe and be disappointed. So here's what I have to say:

Contemporary: Great views of MK from the tower room. There's a special "smell" there that says Contemporary. Totally cool to walk out of your room and see the monorail glide by. Excellent restaurants. Very nice pool area. Excellent arcade (so I hear). An original resort

GF: Some people find this too stuffy. Not me. I loved the atmosphere and elegence of the place. Most beautiful rooms I can remember (I believe JohnY thought it was too foo-foo). Incredible restaurants. Definitely felt pampered here. Loved the GF Orchestra playing in the evenings (the big band stuff).

Poly: South Seas romance abounds. Very tropical. Kona Cafe Restaurant an undiscovered gem. Easy walk to monorail and TTC no matter what long house you stay in.

AKL: You're not in WDW any more. You ARE in Africa. For breakfast there is no place like Boma. Nothing better than watching the animals from your balcony in the morning. Rooms are smaller than most deluxes, but where else can you watch the giraffe graze from your room. The fire pits give this hotel a distinct odor (not a bad thing). Wonderful attention to detail.

My personal favorite is the Poly. It's such a wonderful resort.

I'll add a little to what Beth said. I have also stayed at the Beach Club and the Wilderness Lodge. After every stay, whichever deluxe we have stayed at becomes my favorite, until the next trip when we stay at a different one. Right now, my new favorite is AKL, because we were just there in May. It really is fabulous!!!!

Anyways, the Beach Club has Stormalong Bay. That in itself is a major plus! If you like pools it is a great place to spend a couple of hours, everyday! It is also centrally located to Epcot and MGM. The rooms are done in a seafoam blue, and my husband didn't care for the color of it too much. We haven't stayed at Yacht Club yet, its sister resort, but think we might like the decor there better.

Wilderness Lodge has a romantic, secluded feel. We enjoyed the boat rides to MK and to FW. Deluxe rooms are smaller here, like the rooms at AKL (in fact it is a lot like AKL, but a different setting). We stayed in a Junior suite, and it was very comfortable. The biggest con here is that it is remote to everything but MK, and you will need a rental car there.

I have never stayed at an All Star. I have stayed at three different moderates. From now on, our family's rule is that if we can't afford to stay in a deluxe, we won't go. That's harsh to some people because they would rather go frequently. I, on the other hand, would rather go once a year or every other year. The hotels are a big part of our stay. The service you receive at a deluxe is wonderful. There are a lot of little perks that you will not even realize that you were missing out on until you experience them.

I love the Poly! Its so great walkin along the paths and really feel like your in some tropical wonderland! The torches at night are so nice too. I just love everything about this resort!

Thank you all so much. Out of all the ones I looked up I think it might be between the Poly and the AKL. Other ones A little to foo foo. I like a laid back feeling. I guess that is what I loved about all stars real laid back. Plus I feel like I am waling into a cartoon. Makes me feel like a kid again. We might give one a try though. Kind of funny that I am sold out on the cheepest one eh. My husband is so proud coming from someone with expensive taste.in all real though it is only around $500 more to stay at a deluxe. Not bad at all. I like the Wilderness lodge too.

I agree with Wizzy..There is wonderful detailed information about the various resorts at Intercot..

You can use the search option, using the individual name of the resort to find unlimited reviews...

Also, as beth stated, all of the Deluxe resorts are wonderful..It really comes down to location and themeing..

You can not compare a Deluxe resort with a Value resort..The rooms are larger..(although ALK and WL have smaller rooms then standard)..There are several full service sit down restaurants, themed pools with slides and the such, less guests, transportation options, in room ammendities such as: turn down service, iron/ironing board, hair dryers, make-up mirrors, large closets and dressers for storage, queen size beds, patios or balconies, in room dining & daybed/couch..(to list a few)

With all of that being said, The Polynesian is my favorite resort

It has larger rooms then most of the Deluxe resorts, the best transportation options, (ie: TTC, monorail and boat launch), the restaurants are the best, the ambiance of the South Seas theme is Perfect for relaxing..

The resort only has 850 rooms..The 11 longhouses are scattered throughout the property..This gives me a more private and peaceful feeling then being in a Lodge

It most contrasts my home environment..
Therefore, it's a vacation, within a vaction

lovethemouse/hatetherat, what is it about the deluxe that you won't get from the moderate besides, concierge and inside corridor? What is that "a lot of little perks" that deluxe offer? I don't want to miss it! I'm trying to decide whether to do deluxe or moderate. We have two kids age 2 and 4.

In the long run everyone sees the same game..The question is where do you want to sit??..The upper deck or on the railing field level?

I chose to be right over the dugout!!

There are lounge chairs, hammocks, swings and cabanas scattered along the beach front..There are limited amounts of all...

Well, Lionking, Polygirl did a pretty good job of explaining the ammenities, but I will give you our reasons specifically for choosing deluxe over moderate. Now, always keepin mind that everybody has different personal preferences and value different experiences over others. I have to add that disclaimer.

Transportation is a major issue. at the deluxes there are more transportation options, less people to utilize them, and it is just generally better and more consistent in its execution. At the moderates there are always multiple stops, lots of people (especially at park closing), and IMHO not enough buses to service them. This can be a major pet peeve on a WDW vacation, but less of one if you have a car at your disposal.

The rooms themselves are larger. This is nicer for a family of four when you have some downtime to kick back and relax without feeling cramped (though rooms at AKL and WL are smaller than the others, but still large enough). IMHO housekeeping is also more attentive. There are more toiletries stocked (not that we use them...we take them home), though they have quit giving out the bottles of lotion. Darn them, cheapskates! I also remember staying at DL a couple of years ago and there was this soap dispenser in the shower! I don't know if they still do it that way, but I wasn't happy about it, and requested a bar of soap. The only moderate to have in room coffeepots is CS, though ours had to be replaced anyways. I also think the rooms are maintained better.

There is a lower ratio of guests to CMs at a deluxe, which makes a world of difference in the service level. There always seems to be a line at a moderate front desk. Pretty much anytime I have ever stayed at a deluxe I have been able to walk right up to a CM at the front desk, even when checking in/out. The only time I have been able to do this at a moderate was when we checked out at 6:30am. In fact, at AKL, they have so many CM's there just to talk to you about the animals. They seem almost bored, and WANT to talk to you. In contrast, CMs at a moderate are always busy, though friendly.

There is also the location aspect. The monorail hotels and Epcot resorts are all deluxe. These have a closer proximity to and there are more dining options to choose from.

All these things add up to a special experience. Sure, it comes with a price. If you can afford it, go for it. I think it is worth the extra money, and you won't be disappointed.

real room service - the moderates have pizza- but the deluxes have real room services - when I am so tried from during the parks and just want to relax I do room service - it is lovely. Only the deluxes have this feature. However the deluxes do not have food courts, only the moderates and the value resorts do.

I love the Poly
Why-because when I come back to the resort after a hectic day at the park, it is so calm and peaceful at the Poly. You can walk through the resort with the tiki lamps burning and the calm hawaiian music playing. There are ducks and rabbits running around. You can hear the water lap up on the beach. You can see the castle as it changes colors. The Grand Floridian and Contemporary are lit up and so pretty across the water.
I love the Boardwalk for the villa and for the location but nothing beats coming back to the Poly.

Just as a FYI
I was told by a Disney cast member that the Poly has the highest number of return guests of any of the resorts.

We were told the same thing

The Polynesian is also #1 among the WDW resorts for Honeymooners

We were also told that they will cap the reservations at 80% occupancy at the Polynesian to push guests toward the other Deluxe resorts...

For me it is the Wilderness Lodge. Why?

1. I honeymooned there
2. It is small enough that it does not seem overcrowded.
3. Lobby! Lobby! Lobby!
4. Artist Point is a superior resaurant
5. Animal shows in the lobby!
6. Neat sitting areas on all of the landings.
7. Boat to Magic Kingdom
8. Hidden Mickey search
9. Good trais for biking and walking.
10. Nice walk to Fort Wilderness
11. Great views from balconies above 5th floor.
12. Water mice, and other good boating choices.
13. Honeymoon room with vaulted ceilings and jacuzzi tub for cheap.

G you are too funny. I think you put it in perspective.However we hate WCW and Love the felling of being in a cartoon land. I live near the beach and go to lodges etc etc stay in nice hotels yet never felt like I was in a giant cartoon. Yet I never went to the others like the new ak resort. Do all rooms have a view of animals or do you need a special request?

I have not stayed at the AK resort. I have researched it and from what I can figure out it looks like you have to get a Savannah view room. And of course this cost more than your standard. I am not 100% sure,so maybe someone who has been there can tell you. As far as the delux resorts go I like them because of the transportation as lovethemouse said. But saving money is good to. .................Gail
