Alert when reservation is available

What are your thoughts on the 'Sniper' tool by wdwtools where you're given an alert when a reservation is available at your chosen restaurant? Does it actually work?

does it work? possible. is it a good thing? no.

Tools that let you know when you have a limited chance to get something are just a nightmare for the community on a whole. for them to do their job they have to ping every single restaurant reservation board at a specific time and repeat it every time it updates. These "pings" slows down service and makes it harder for people to actually access the Disney ADR sites. The reality is by the time you get info and try to get the time you want you might have already been beaten out by someone using the same program or was actually at the site at the same time

I don't know this app so it may or may not work. But I want to counterpoint some of the negativity around these types of tools. They are useful and that's why people use them. You should not feel guilty like you are taking advantage of the system, you are not. Everyone can use these tools and smart planners deserve "advantages" over poor or lazy planners.

The systems are impacted by many of these tools, but there are ways for Disney to protect against that. They can block these pings and/or route them to a special purpose database. These tools also motivate the company to make improvements, like a waiting queue. Reservations are first come, first served but you should also be able to load into a queue and wait for any available reservation. Amazon does this with it's deals. Those queues would kill these tools and give the reservation to the person who was really first to come.
