We are paying the extra for a preferred room, and are requesting Martinique. Some might say we're suckers for paying the extra, but my mom has some mobility issues and the closer we can get to OPR and the pool, the better.
My ex-H and I also stayed in Jamaica (can't remember the building #) and it was just a short walk over the bridge to OPR. As an adult without kids, that was great. As a mommy with four kids ages 3 and under and two aging parents, we're paying for preferred.
Oh, and we put our preference for Martinique buildings in our requisition to our travel agent. She will note it on our ressie when she books us next month (when packages are released).

First I think you should decide if paying the extra for a preferred room is worth it to you. The rooms are very convieniently located, but to my family it wasn't worth it. We had two rooms and were staying 14 nights. I couldn't justify $700 extra to be close.
We stayed in Jamaica building 44. It was a nice walk to the main area, and very close to the Jamaica bus stop.
I suggest pulling up a map and seeing where looks good to you. If you don't do preferred, I'd recommend requesting Jamaica building 45, Aruba (I believe it's 46) - the ones closest to the bridge or the non-preferred sections of Martinque.
The only sections I would not want to stay in are Trinidad South (pirate rooms - too far away) and Barbados (also too far away).

We stayed in Aruba and at first I thought it was far away but it is one of the closests that is not right next door to the food court. You have to cross the bridge but it's a nice stroll (though not that fun sometimes with kids in a stroller, going up a hill) but it's a decent option. I lovedddddd the grounds and now that I am more of a runner I wish we were staying there for that reason. That was probably my favorite thing about the resort but dang those buildings are spread out!!!!
