    Default Key West

    Hello everyone!

My boyfriend and I are going to be going down to Key West for 2 days/2 nights in May. Does anybody have any suggestions on where to stay/things to do? We are both 25 years old.

We are looking to book a hotel soon....they seem to be pretty expensive on Travelocity, and we are going to be getting there the day after Memorial day, so I'm sure that will make the price increase.

We don't have any plans set in stone, but some ideas are:
    - Beach dinner at Latitudes
    - Parasailing
    - Walking (driving?) around and taking in the atmosphere

We will be driving down to Key West, if that makes a difference. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hubby and I spent a week there on Honeymoon in 2007 and LOVED it. Recommend Square One for dinner if budget allows and still there. Drinks at Schooner Wharf and Hogs Breath. Don't let biker theme at Hogs Breath put you off, it's very friendly. Bar man gave us a tab when other tourists had to pay each time. We sat at the raw bar there and our friend Tony in UK saw us on webcam, rang the bar and called us a couple of b******s for being there and he wasn't! LOL. The Pirate Soul museum is also interesting as is the Rum Barrel bar next door. Hope you enjoy and don't forget to watch the sunset from Mallory Square

It's much easier to walk or bike around the island than it is to drive. Definitely find a place to rent bikes for a day or two and then bike around the island at least once.

Hotels over on the eastern half of the island are a little further away from all of the bars and restaurants so if you're going to be having some drinks with dinner or after dinner or enjoying the atmosphere near Duval St, it is usually a better idea to stay in a hotel somewhere close to that area so you can just walk back to it at the end of the night.

The cemetery in the middle of town is open during the day and is pretty neat to wander around (think New Orleans type above-ground vaults). Blue Heaven is a very popular (for good reason) breakfast spot. There are a bunch of museums, the Pirate Museum, the Wreckers museum, the Mel Fisher one and others so whatever strikes your fancy. I liked the Wreckers and Mel Fisher ones respectively.

Hotels in Key West are expensive.you can also check bed and breakfast locations.
I agree with the aboved mentioned suggestions. Just an FYI the pirate museum is no longer in key west.

I recommend the turtle hospital in marathon (just north of KW). It is really interesting if that is your sort of thing.

Shame Pirate Museum no longer there, we really enjoyed it. Another must-do in my opinion is a sunset cruise on a catamaran/boat. There are loads of companies offering them. We went on a small catamaran with us and just one couple from New York. We had very good assorted munchies and pink champagne. very good. If any help we stayed at The Southernmost hotel which has a café doing breakfast on their private beach. Lovely watching the sunrise there. Butterfly house - forget the actual name - and the Southernmost marker are worth a visit. Have to have your photo with the marker - southernmost point in USA, 90 miles from Cuba!

Thank you! It looks like we will be staying at the Parrot Key resort, right on the water. I definitely think we will be walking everywhere, don't want to put up with the hassle of trying to find parking.
