Default Taxi cab fare from WDW

We have friends going down to WDW and staying on property for four nights in March, but only plan on doing two days at the parks. They plan on doing Universal but won't have a rental car at that point.

Does anyone know what a cab fare would run from Pop Century to one of the Universal Parks. I think they might be transporting a group of 7, so possibly a dedicated van rental might be better.

I told my friend someone on Intercot would definitely know or offer a cheaper solution. I did see in another post that there is Universal/Mears package. Is that the best way to go or are there other options?

    Thanks in advance.

My advice, tell your friends to either rent a car or look into Mears or another car service... I wound up stuck and had to take a cab this past October... Cost me $55 from Contemporary to Universal, one way... Over $100 round trip... Not worth it... I am sure a car service would be cheaper...

The four of us always do cabs and it is about $30 each way. With a larger group you could look at a van, but the cost per person shouldn't be any worse. Mears does a per person fare...but I've never liked having to deal with their schedule and their multiple stops. Never in a million years would I rent a car in Orlando - just don't want the hassle.

We took a cab from POP to Universal a few years ago (2012?), it was only about $30 or so.

You can call yellow cab Company in Orlando and let them know where you need to be picked up and where you are going to and they can give you a quote.

They can give you a quote, but it may end up being higher. We took a cab from the Contemporary to Citywalk; I had been quoted a price of $35, but it ended up being almost $55. The driver said his hands were tied but gave me a number to call to complain about this. The manager actually went back and looked at the phone log, saw who I spoke with, took my name and address with the promise that they would send out a check for the difference. It never came. (Note--this was Yellow Cab.)

I, too, would suggest looking into Mears or another towncar service.

I don't recall the exact conversation, but on our last trip while staying on property we rented from Alamo on Disney property. As a side bar, I found this to be cheaper than renting from the airport and because we used ME free service, I didn't need the rental car on day 1 or 10, so not only was it cheaper, but renting on property saved me two days, plus they picked me up and dropped me off at my resort.

Back to my point, the shuttle driver from Alamo said something like, since Disney technically owns all the land, that the roads are essentially private. While cabs are restricted to what they can charge in certain areas, apparently when venturing Disney property, that can change (due to the private nature).

I am probably over simplifying and there are probably other things to consider in this, but this is probably why fares can vary so much and why its essential to get a quote upfront on the fare.

I'm trying to persuade our friends that after paying all the extra cab fares, that renting a day or two early might be the better way to go, plus would be more flexible.

When we went in 2012 we used Quicksilver our Intercot sponsor. I know they have 10 passenger vans so you might want to check with them.

The problem with a taxi quote is if you are stuck in traffic, the meter keeps running. This applies to Disney property also which accounts for the spread in rates.

We always take a cab from the airport to the Hard Rock Hotel. Our quote online has always been between 35 and 40 dollars for a cab.......in reality we ALWAYS pay somewhere around $50. It is never less. If you put in Universal to Disney on the online calculator you will get a price of 35 to 40 dollars also....don't believe it. Your cost one way will be around $50 plus tip. I suggest renting a car, that way you can come and go as you please, without time restraints.

OH, I wanted to ad - one of the reasons I like cabs is because it is the EASIEST. No need to find a number and call anyone or arrange times at all. Go to the concierge desk at ANY resort, ask for a cab, and they'll call one and have it there within 5 to 10 minutes. Leave Universal (or Seaworld) and there is a LINE of cabs just waiting for a fare. I confess to loving the simplicity.

We were going to use Yellow Cab from MCO to Hard Rock and then call them to take us to Yacht Club a couple days later. I assumed I would have to call them to pick us up. Do you think there will be a dependable cab company outside Hard Rock that will take 4 of us plus five medium sized luggage pieces and carry-ons to Yacht Club without having to call for cab service?

Bell services at Hard Rock will call a cab for you when you are ready. If need be they can call for van service to fit all the passengers and luggage.

Have to agree about Mears. We booked them one time from Disney to Universal and they were late picking us up and very late getting us back to our hotel at Disney. Waiting out in the parking lot was miserable, so save your pennies for a taxi.

I've used Quicksilver before and I think they can get them there for cheaper than Mears, or equal to, with a set rate quoted in advance and better service. If your party knows their schedule in advance, they might want to check out the Quicksilver website. Though, yes, renting a car might be more economical.
