Default DAS & FP+ combo for ASD, ADHD, SPD kid

So I've been reading about the new DAC (total bummer they had to go to this...) and the FP+ system and am totally confused. My two sons (6&4), DH and I will be doing a one day visit to MK in February (weren't planning on this, but when opportunity knocks...) so we don't have a resort reservation, just purchasing one day tickets. What is the best way to combine the DAC & FP+? We're seasoned WDW vets but haven't been back since the new system was put into place.

From what I've read, we can't reserve FPs in advance due to lack of resort reservation, right? Any other tips or tricks I should know to get the most outta this?

My oldest son is the one who qualifies for the DAS and when he's in a mood to ride, we'd run around and ride as much as he wanted, then he'd need some time to chill so we'd chill by riding the train or monorail. Stinks that this won't be able to work that way, or will it??

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

You need to go to guest relations and get the DAS for your son. Then visit the ride you want to ride and get your return time. Depending on how long that it (which is based on the how long the standby time is) you have time to go ride other things with shorter times. You do not have to return immediately at the time written down. You can return anytime you want after that time, but you can't get a new DAS time until you've used the first one.

FP+ - make your selections the day you arrive once you're in the park. You have 3 selections to make and they don't interfere with or change the DAS at all. FP+ is totally separate so you can have your FP times and a DAS time at the same time.
