T-Rex chances
Hello my fellow Intercotees!
We are arriving on Saturday, August 11 at 7:30pm. We don't want to make reservations just in case we are delayed. What do you think our chances are of just walking up to the T-Rex with 5 people? We are staying at the POR for one night, then we check in to OKW. I was hoping to take the boat down to DTD.
Thanks!
Debbie

We went to DTD one day last Oct and wandered through T-rex just to take pictures, there were two tables sat in the entire resturant. Based on that I'd say easy but thats most assuredly not a always thing, but I'd say your odds would be good, worse case scenario if its full you can go to Earl of Sandwich which is the best Counter Service ever!!!

Just keep in mind that if it's a busy day and you do get in, be prepared for perhaps the noisiest dining experience of your life. My wife and I had lunch at T-Rex in February and it was hard to talk to each other without shouting. The place was very chaotic, it was packed, and we really didn't enjoy it. We couldn't get out of there fast enough.
-
We didn't enjoy it either. Incredibly crowded, and someone who was just wandering through to take pictures hit me with his camera bag and literally sat on my salad plate... the manager apologized and said she couldn't control the sight seers.

I would go ahead and make the reservation. If it's a busy day, you will be glad. If you can't make your reservation, simply call and cancel.
Before your trip, program important Disney phone numbers into your cell phone. I always have a cheat sheet in my pocket for each day listing the restaurant, time, and reservation number. That way it's easy to manage your reservations.
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. If you are unable to make your reservation (give or take 10 minutes), please be considerate and call to cancel.
Enjoy your trip!

T-Rex is popular, so you may not be able to get advance dining reservations. I tried getting reservations at the end of March when I was in Orlando and couldn't get any. We walked up around 5pm on a Wednesday evening and were seated right away. Our server told us that after 6pm it gets busy and we probably wouldn't have been seated without reservations. There were long lines on Friday evening, too.
If you can get an advance dining reservation, I'd recommend it. I'd be prepared to either wait a long time or not being able to do it if you can't. You're showing up on a Saturday in the summer so I'd expect it to be busy.

I tried to make ressies for our trip in August. I wanted 6pm and the only time I could get for any day that week was 4pm. I also did this on my 180 day mark. Based on this,I'm thinking it would be hard to get in.

In nov we went to T-Rex we did not have reservations and the kids really wanted to eat there. We put our names on the list and was told 45-1hr wait. I walked down towards cirque to do shopping while DH took kids to Lego store again. I decided not to shop and turned around to meet with boys. While walking past Trex I heard my name called. I ran up to secure our table while calling DH to meet me. Our wait ended up being less than 20 min. So there is a chance you could get in with out reservations.

Thanks everyone! I think we're going to wing it. I hesitate making reservations because the only reason we might not make it is if something goes wrong(flight, ME, etc). If that happens, I may not remember to call and cancel. I definitely don't want to be THAT person...LOL! Thanks for all the helpfull responses!

We loved the T-Rex! I too didn't want to be locked into adr's so it was on our maybe list, but we got very lucky! We always visit DTD on our arival day, we were enjoying a Saturday afternoon of shopping at DTD & happened to stop right outside of T Rex & a CM told us that a storm was coming very soon we should plan accordingly. We walked right up & asked if there was anything available & to our pleasant surprise, we got right in.
Myself, DH & 2 teen DS's enjoyed it very much! We've done RFC several times, so maybe just the novelty, but we all agreed that we like T- Rex more!
Best of luck to you!

Thank you! We have started the tradition of spending our first night at DTD and are keeping our fingers crossed about the T-Rex. Either way it's fine...after all, we'll be in Disney World!! This is the latest we've ever arrived, so it will be a new experience for us.

We have gone to T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe numerous times and have never made reservations. We always just walk up and put our name in...if it's a wait, we look around the shop. I don't think we ever waited more than 20 minutes. You will have fun...it's great atmosphere!
