dress code ?
We are going on the 7day eastern caribbean cruise on the Magic. What is the dress code for men for dinner on the non formal night? Can I wear dress shorts to the dinners the rest of the cruise? Any other tips are welcome also , this is our first cruise of any length.

Meh... Most cruise lines don't necessarily enforce the dress code. I've altered the posted dress code and never have an issue.
Formal night, I wear a dress shirt, no tie and I'll probably tuck my shirt in and shoes.
Semi formal means I'll wear dockers and a nice shirt, shoes.
Everything else is jeans and a polo shirt, sneakers.
I don't lose sleep over the crazy packing suggestions. Airlines don't let you travel like they used to. My first few cruises, they used to have 50's nights and things of that nature. Those days are gone...

This topic is just about as controversial as resort mugs.
Here's what DCL has to say about your question:
"Dining Dress requirements vary by venue or theme night on your cruise. In general, most meals are 'Cruise Casual'—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops. Most cruises also have special theme nights with additional attire requirements. Here's a breakdown of these events by cruise itinerary." (Read more here.)
In spite of those guidelines, I've seen people seated for dinner in tank tops and cut-off shorts. I've seen people take their kids to dinner in the same attire.
Wearing dress shorts certainly is a big step-up from the people seated next to us (on formal night, no less). I think the guideline could be what would you be comfortable wearing to a nice restaurant back home (let's say a few steps up from your local Olive Garden or Red Lobster).

We went on the Dream last May for a 4 night. I believe that the code does not allow jeans or shorts at dinner. I just wore khakis and a decent shirt. I don't remember seeing any shorts in the dining rooms at night.

We were on the Dream in January. There was a wide variety of attire. I feel you could wear nice shorts and not feel out of place.
