    Default Winterthur in Delaware

Yesterday we went to Winterthur - an estate owned by the DuPont family - near Wilmington, DE.

We really enjoyed it - there is so much to do I ended up getting a year pass. The mansion has about 135 rooms and the grounds are so large the property has its own zip code!!!

If anyone is going to be in the area I would recommend a visit. One day admission is $18 but it can be used the next day if you want to come back. They have a website if anyone wants information.

We also went to Longwood Gardens in PA (about a 10 minute drive from Winterthur) which we enjoy and already have a membership. They had a firework/fountain show last night and it was a beautiful night.

Hope everyone has a great long holiday weekend. We will be home the next 2 days doing yardwork (still cleaning up some things from the hurricane).

What do you do at Winterthur? Is it like Longwood, where you walk around and enjoy the grounds?

It is an estate with a large house (135 rooms) with priceless treasures. Each room on the tour is a different style. Paintings of George Washington and early American collections. DuPont collected the furniture and treasures. The grounds are like Longwood and have special areas during different times of year.'

There is a Fairy Garden that is really neat.

A large library and research building

A large gift shop and some art galleries.
