Spectro-Magic Parade?

Will they ever bring Spectro back?? This was my favorite parade...........

Good question. I think Main Street Electrical Parade doesn't have a set end date right now, so who know when or if they'll bring back SpectroMagic. I really enjoy SpectroMagic and missed it on our last trip since it had been replaced by Main Street Electrical Parade.

Spectro is my favorite too, but it is good to switch them up occasionally.

The current plan (which is still open to change) is that Spectro will return sometime in 2012 with some improvements to the technology, but no time has been announced. Rumor right now is the fall, but, again, that's just rumor.

That's interesting -- I'm curious about the timing for each parade's run. We started going to WDW in 1999 and have gone every other year since -- 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009 (with a parents-only trip thrown in for good measure in 2006 ). We're going back this November.

So I think as far as I know, we've only seen SpectroMagic and so this year may be the first time seeing Main Street Electrical Parade.

Anyone familiar enough on the dates able to comment?

We love SpectroMagic but I'm sure we'll also enjoy the Electrical Parade, and I'd love to see it. Seeing something new is always fun (and in this case the something new is something old!).

Spectromagic ran from 1991-1999 then went on hiatus from mid 1999-early 2001 for upgrades while MSEP ran. Spectro returned early 2001 and ran through mid-2010 when MSEP returned. So, depending on when you went in 1999 and 2001 it's possible you never saw MSEP.

I had seen spectro many times over the yrs.
Last Sept was our first time seeing MSEP. It was a nice change simply due to the fact that we had not seen it before.
Now I say: BRING BACK SPECTROMAGIC !!!

I have to agree with Pete, bring back Spectro!
I'm glad that they are doing a refurb on Spectro, which is enabling those who love MSEP to get to experience it once again and for those who have never had the opportuntiy the chance to take it all in.

I absolutely agree! It's my ring tone on my cell phone and everytime I hear it I can picture the floats going by!! I hope they bring it back! I'll be seeing the MSEP in 4 days!!!! I've never seen it, but I'm keeping an open mind.

For each parade:
The music is completely different.
The floats are different.
Many of the characters who participate are different.
Spectro is "hosted" by Jiminy Cricket, MSEP is "unhosted."

The only thing that is"shared" by the two parades is that they both take place after dark in MK (along the same parade route,) and both have lighted floats and characters.

If you went fall of 1999 you saw MSEP. It started in May of 1999 and ran through June of March 2001.

The hippo and ostrich float are from Fantasia-the original, that is Bacchus the wine god on top of the fountain and the next float with the pegasus ( plural being pegasi?) and Chernaborg are also all from Fantasia. When DD was small she would watch only certain parts of Fantasia: the "croccas and the paapas" , the dancing mushrooms, and the Greek gods portion. She was 14 the last time we saw Spectro and still called it the croccas and paapas float (and for the record she is identified as gifted at her HS ) It was nice seeing MSEP again after all these years, but I agree with the other posters, the music in Spectromagic is special.
