Default What is your favorite thing about Fort Wilderness

I saw this on the accommodations forum, and thought it would be fun to narrow it to just Fort Wilderness and post it here in the camping forum.

My favorite thing about Fort Wilderness is a tie between the smell of the Meadow Trading Post, and the sound of the boat horn as it arrives to the marina.

It's hard to pick one, but I like going to the beach when we get there and looking at space mountain and the Magic Kingdom.

I like the guitar and banjo music that plays in the background along the pathways around Pioneer Hall.

Also, relaxing in the rocking chairs in front of Crockett's Tavern.

Having my own bed. Also campers are so much more friendly. We always talk to our neighbors and meet new people. That does not seem to be the case in the resorts.

    Wink Difficult question

This is like asking which of your kids is your favorite. Easier might be what don't we like. I don't have a favorite thing - but thingS.

Definitely the rockers at Crockett's Tavern. Also, having my own bed and "stuff". Not having to haul luggage around. Friendliness of fellow "lodgers" as it were.

Looking at other folks' campsites - lights, signs, etc.

    Bike paths Absolutely.

The plantings between sites. The stumps that are trash receptacles. The names of things.

Being a MK resort - so many eating options so close - by boat.

And to be trip specific: the time we rented a golf cart when our youngest grandson was 15. What a hoot until he mastered the throttle and we didn't have those blast off starts any more. Once he almost dumped the back seat folks on the pavement. He was so embarrassed we just laughed at him. No way we could be mad at him. It's still a favorite family Disney story.

Thanks for a fun thread on this icky gray chilly damp Saturday.

I love the background "mood" music too, and the bathhouses in the camping loops are the best and cleanest campground bathhouses I've ever used.

the friendliness of the campers and the trusting atmosphere. we lost our debit card and someone turned it in to our campsite. If we were in any other resort i highly doubt we wouldve gotten it back.

I love all of your comments, they are my favorites too! Some others would be: hearing the train whistle from MK, walking anywhere & seeing & hearing the little critters on the paths, the noise that footsteps make at the Meadows on the wood plank floor, the smell of the campground. Never knowing what bird, duck, etc will wander into my site!

the quietness of it then out of the blue the horn of the boat comming and leaving in the Marina. Back ground music, the walks, the smells of bacon frying in the morning and steaks and burgers in the evening. The friendliness of those around you. At holidays the decorations. Trails end buffet, and the campfire and movie, the Light show while sitting on the beach. The laid back atmosphere found at the Fort is that makes any vacation away from home enjoyable. I love Ft. wilderness.

It is hard to pick one thing. I think being able to relax. You cannot unwind at any other resort as you can at FW. Sometime the parks can stress you and FW will get all that out.

I think its the solitude. While there are people around, its just not the same hustle and bustle as at the other resorts. I get the ammenities of being at Disney without the crowd so to speak.

The quiet, having a grill and it being my first place that I stayed at when I fell in love with Disney as an adult.

    Default Fw

    1. Great pool particularly the kids splash water slide area.
    2. Movie time with live entertainment including character meet and greets and making smores on the campfire.
    3. Staying in a cabin means having your own deck and a charcoal grill - kids are worn out and in bed so it's time to throw steaks on the grill and make a pitcher of Margaritas.
    4. Close to the MK and all MK areas resorts by boat gives many dining options.
    5. Parking your car right at your cabin!
    6. The camping at Walt Disney World experience.

    Thumbs up My Favs

I don't know where to start....

My most favorite is just the entire campground during the Holidays!!! The way the resort is lit up and everyone in the loops has decorations up to!!! It's just great to ride around and look at them all!!!

Also the availability to rent golf carts and just ride around the resort and see the sites all year long as people deocorate, but just being able to get from place to place when I want to, not relying on Disney Transportation.

All the activities the campground offers...
The pools, the campfire show, and going down to Bay Lake to watch the fireworks and the Electrical Water Pagent...

There is so much to do, you don't really have to leave the resort if you don't want to, just kick back and relax... Go to Crocket's Tavern and rock on the porch and people watch... Nice way to spend an evening after a busy day!!!
