Atlantis Resort - Bahamas
Has anyone ever stayed at this resort? We keep seeing all the commercials and it looks like alot of fun. Is it all-inclusive or is everything pay as you go? Any info would be appreciated! Also when is the cheapest time to go and is the dining plan similiar to Disney? We seem to end up at Disney every year and my DD16 wants to try something different.

When we stopped at Nassau on a cruise, we toured it and it is beautiful resort. I would have loved to have been able to spend time on their beach. Also, the casino and aquarium were awesome. If you go, check out the million dollar chandelier in the casino Hope you get to go.

It's not an all-inclusive resort but you can purchase a dining plan. It's a bit pricey but it does look like fun. I've never stayed there, but have considered it.

We rented rooms there when we were on the Disney Cruise. It was cheaper to rent a room than to do the shore excursion. The resort is fantastic! They upgraded us (of course- since we didn't actually sleep there!) to the Royal Tower. The rooms were huge and the view was fantastic. We only ate at the pool bar and only hamburgers etc. It was around Disney prices for the pool food except I think the soda was extra. This was 5 years ago so I don't know if things have gone up. We got to use the pool, beach, aquarium etc-full run of the place. It was worth it.

We also have not necessarily stayed here, but have visited while doing a Disney Cruise. Their beach area was beautiful. And the Aquarium also very nice. We got to eat there and the food was good.

I stayed there in July 2008. It was very nice. We stayed in the Reef, which is the newest section. The Cove section looked great as well......

We stayed there for 8 days at Harborside, which is the timeshare. We had a wonderful 2 bedroom condo. There are all inclusive packages although we didn't go that route. Food is very pricey there. It was a wonderful vacation and we all had a great time. The best water attractions around and beautiful beaches. We did swim with dolphins but we did that offsite at Blue Lagoon due to the fact you had to be a strong swimmer for the Atlantis deepwater dolphin experience. A great trip.

This is not accurate. There is a meal plan, but it is only for breakfast and dinner. Most people think of all-inclusive as including all meals, alcoholic drinks, and many activities.
The meal plan is not a good deal. You can only hope to break even with it compared to going a-la-carte.
The cheapest time to go is hurricane season...August/September. The weather is good then, you just run the risk of a storm. I was actually there once when it was grazed by a storm and it only disrupted the resort for 12 hours.
I describe Atlantis as across between Disney World and Las Vegas...on a beach. It is a resort like no-other. The water rides are fantastic, the beaches beautiful, the water is the most amazing shade of clear blue, and the sea-life exhibits are lots of fun.
It's expensive, particularly food. But there are ways to eat economically, if that is your mission. You can also dine-to-the-nines every night and eat at Bobby Flay, Nobu Matsuhisa, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten venues on consecutive nights.
I'm happy to help with other questions. I've visited many times and have timeshare there now.

We had a great time there also. The water park is out of this world! IMO the food at the resort is expensive but you can eat cheaper if you try.

Food: You can eat a lot of great expensive food. You can really cheap while you're there, too. There are a bunch of fish shacks on the bridge between Paradise Island and Nassau. If you leave Atlantis and walk over the bridge, just when you get to the other side, there are a bunch of fish shacks. They'll sell you a take-out order of conch fritters, beans and rice and a beer for under $10.00. I love conch fritters! There are places to sit down there, so if you hang out to eat, you can meet some locals and some tourists, both.
Time to go: The cheapest part of the year is May - September.
The resort: It's beautiful and the water slides are nice, but not that intense.
Other stuff to do: There are a lot of dive shops that will take you out to dive or snorkel.
We did the dolphin encounter at Blue Lagoon Island. It was okay, but we actually enjoyed just hanging out on the beach at their facility a lot.
There's a small museum in downtown Nassau dedicated to real pirates. It's very cool, if you like pirates.
There are a number of tours that will take you out to one of the out islands for a day. It's real treat, because it's quiet and deserted once you get away from Nassau. It's a real tropical paradise. You can also hire them to take you deep sea fishing or bone fishing.

I remember this area. I just wish I had known I could have gotten some conch fritters. Have always always wanted to try those.
I guess I will have to wait until we do our Oasis Cruise w/RCL.
