    Question FAFSA questions

Hoping someone can tell me the answer.

I was completing my 3 daughters' FAFSA forms online. The first two went through fine, when I was doing my oldest daughters it popped up and said she was considered an "independent student". I have never seen this before. She will be 24 years old this year but not until 12/22.

Could this status be because she is turning 24?

She took one year off from college so she will now be entering her senior year.

    Thanks!
    Jeri Lynn

My son turned 23 in oct. There is one part of fafsa that asks 5 or 6 questions about if they were born before 1987. Not sure which month. Anyway if you answer yes to any of those questions then they are considered independent, It really doesnt change anything because the schools still wanted our income on the fafsa. All it means is when the form is done and usually says what we are expected to pay it will say zero because they are independent. Sorry if this is unclear. You can call the education quest foundation in your area and they will answer any questions over the phone. Thats what we did this year when we had the same issue..
