    Default Need Help W/ Luggage

I bought a Prodigy 5 piece luggage set for my WDW trip in May, I took it on a roadtrip a few weeks ago to test it...thank goodness I did....2 of the bags busted open at the zipper (the bags were no overloaded at all), when they busted I looked at the thread used to sew the luggage and it was the kind of thread you would sew a button with. Needless to say I returned it,got my money back and am now looking for good luggage that is not going to burst on a plane...I need suggestions please

Heh... About 11 years ago we picked up a couple of Samsonite clam shell style "bags". It's pretty large, and durable as all out. Nobody has been able to break it open yet, but some area look like people hae tried. We spent about $100 for each, and it's probaly the best $200 we'e spent. They are usually all we take besides our carry-ons. Others that sometimes travel with us are on what's probably their third set of luggage.

They are a little heavier than normal luggage, but it's not a big deal. We are absolutely able to stay under the 50 lbs limit that Southwest goes by.

We also have samsonite. Bought a set several years ago. Excellent set of luggage and very durable. We got ours at Sams Club so you might check out their website and see if they still carry a samsonite set.

I purchased WDW luggage last year...the first trip the wheels broke off of one suitcase and I just got back from WDW Monday and one of the wheels broke off of the remaining piece...so DON'T purchases WDW luggage.

I'll be anxious to read recommendations on this thread!

My advice is to get softsided luggage. We are a family of 6 and travel with lots of "stuff" the one thing I have learned with luggage restrictions is that the weight limit can be easily met with a suitcase that is already heavy empty. Each of our children and myself have a set of luggage from Vera Bradley and my husband uses a hockey bag he loves. We never go over in weight. The only time we had an issue is on our last trip when I used a "traditional" suitcase for the baby (then 8 months) I only put in his clothes and a few toiletries his was over. Everyone else was fine. Lets just say that this year he's getting a new luggage set for his trip. The lighter the suitcase the more you can pack without paying for it.

You did post it in the planning section the moderators moved it and I was just wondering why. It seems like vacation planning to me too.

Yeah but this category is "Theme Parks">"Nightlife, Shops $ Water Parks" which is for questions about Bars/restaurants, stores and water parks. This is a strange section for a thread on luggage recommendations to be moved to.

And it's amazing how it's not even talking about luggage anymore...

I was just curious. I thought this section was to do with WDW shops not general shopping. My bad.

Let's keep this on track - the poster was asking for recommendations about luggage that's going to last a few trips!

For us, we have samsonite, and they've been great. We got them as wedding gifts almost 5 years ago, and (keeping fingers crossed) we've had no issues.

Believe it or not, I've gotten some great luggage at Winners, the "canadian" TJ Maxx. Might be worth checking out.
