    Default Alaskan Cruise - Question??

    Hey there all,

It's been awhile since I've been on the board, I so miss this.

Anyhow - We are getting ready to book our next Disney adventure and I am wondering if anyone knows if the ship has been retrofitted for the cold climate ie: closed in pools and decking and so on.

    Any info would be greatful.

    Thanks - Abee

    back!

We were on the Wonder for her second cruise after drydock in October.

No, the pools have not been enclosed, but a nice glass-enclosed lounge area has been added on the front of the forward funnel overlooking the adult pool area. It's relatively small (seating for perhaps 65-70) but affords great views.

Deck # 4 is still open to the weather.

We didn't see any other modifications specifically geared toward "Alaska-proofing", but they conceivably could add some features between now and the time they start those cruises.

    Thanks Ed

The funny thing is we never swam in the pools when we went on our cruise in the Bahamas...

    Go figure...

Ed may I ask you how long your cruise was? We were an the land/sea package on our last trip being on the ship for 4 days and I am hoping 7 days won't be too much for my kids.

That particular cruise was only a 3-nighter; we've previously been on two 7-nighters and one other 3-nighter. Given a choice, I wouldn't do the 3-night any more; they are entirely too short to really enjoy the overall experience. Our next one will probably be a 5-nighter on the new "Dream", with two stops at Castaway Cay.

We've never had kids with us on these cruises, but from what I've seen the kids will have plenty to keep them entertained on a 7-night cruise.

Children do really well on 7 night Alaska cruises.

The sailng itself is very port intensive, so they are in a new place almost daily, and new things to see off the ship.

You do not get the prolonged sea days that can sometimes bring out the "I'm bored, I already did that" comments.

    Thanks again Ed,

That totally makes sence, on our last vacation to Disneyland we spent 6 days and it's the longest we've ever gone, I have to tell you it was so relaxing we never felt rushed to get on rides or eat at certain times so maybe this cruise will be the same way.

I'm really looking forward to it and will post everything as we make all the arrangements to the trip itself and everything we experience along the way.

    Hey Nanc,

Thanks for much for the info.... It's not really that they were bored it's that they spent so much time on the kids deck

This time I am going to enjoy them so much more and try to keep them with me at least some of the time.

Don't get me wrong they loved it but I felt bad that they spent so much time away from us.
