but, if anyone has driven to DL from Reno, which is the better route? (wanting a shorter drive time)

395, past Yosemite, Mamouth Lakes, etc.
OR
I-80 to Sacramento, then I-5 south.

It has been awhile since I have made that drive, and if my memory serves me right the fastest way would be your I-80 to Sacramento...
The 395 route by Yosemite is a beautiful drive. But I remember alot of grades,turns, and slower speeds due to going through towns with stops and traffic lights.
If you have a friend, or yourself with a GPS system you could enter your starting address and your end address and know for sure. I absolutely love ours, I won't leave home without it. Or you could even go into MSN Maps, or Yahoo Maps and get the same information.

I have always gone I-80 to I-5. I was always starting 100 miles south of Reno, so that had a lot to do with my route of choice. But, I do believe it is most direct.

Thanks! I did a mapquest of both routes, and it is about 30 minutes difference.

So I think we'll go interstate on the way down, and come home by Yosemite! Maybe AVOID the interstate and Sacramento on Labor day weekend!!
