June 18, 1943 – Mouseketeer Charley Laney, a member of “The Mickey Mouse Show” during the 1956 –1957 season was born.
June 18, 1954 – Disney’s animated short “Casey Bats Again,” and The Martins and the Coys” were released.
June 18, 1956 – Disneyland’s Storybook Land, including Canal Boats of the World opened. The Canal in Fantasyland contains 465,000 gallons of water in which 13 boats where powered by outboard motors. The vessels were named Cinderella, Daisy, Aurora, Alice, Faline, Flora, Fauna, Flower, Katrina, Merryweather, Wendy, Snow White, and Tinkerbell. The ride was partly based on Madurodam, a tourist attraction in Holland that Walt Disney had visited.
June 18, 1959 – The Disney film “Eyes in Outer Space” was released.
June 18, 1969 – Disney’s 1953 “Peter Pan” was re-released in theaters for the third time.
June 18, 1982 – Grad Night ’82 was held at Disneyland. The late night entertainment schedule included performances by Sister Sledge, Tommy Tutone, and Frankie & The Knockouts.
June 18, 1983 – Disneyland’s parade “Flights of Fancy,” debuted. (Ended Sept. 10, 1983)
June 18, 1988 – “Mickey’s Birthdayland” opened at the Magic Kingdom at WDW. (Closed Apr. 22, 1990)
June 18, 1988 – The “Minnie’s Surprise Birthday Party” show opened in Mickey’s Birthdayland at WDW. (Closed Apr. 22, 1990)
June 18, 1988 – The “Mickey’s Hollywood Theater” opened in Mickey’s Birthdayland at WDW. (Closed Mar. 11, 1996)
