If I were to purchase tickets from a ticket broker such as Official Ticket Center, can I have them linked to my room key so I can make things easier for ourselves. I just hate to keep up with both when I don't have to.

Yes, you can. On our last trip I bought Park Hoppers through a broker, and at checkin had them transferred over to our room keys. If I remember correctly, the only stipulation is that it has to be done before the Park Tickets have been used.

We received two-day park hoppers as a graduation gift. When we tried to link them to our room key at check-in, we were told that they couldn't do that. We'd have to use the tickets separately.
So, we used the gift park hoppers first and then the ones with our room key second.
1) You cannot have multiple tickets on the KTTW at the same time.
2) You load either
. . . or the package tickets
. . . or the off-site tickets
3) So, if you had package tickets, not loading freebies is correct
