    Default Different Size Feet

We finally figured out that my DS11's feet are two completely different sizes. One is a 5.5 and one is a 7/7.5. An employee in our local sports store noticed it first when she measured both feet a week or so ago.

I was so annoyed that before Christmas an employee at the same store sent us home with size 7.5 shoes (he measured one foot) and when I got home and felt what must have been the OTHER foot I couldn't believe he had sold us those shoes! I went back and another employee measured the smaller foot and said he was definitely a 5! So we were all right!

Is there anything I can do about this besides buying two pairs of all of his shoes??? He has had really severe foot pain at times and an orthopedist made him foot inserts (which were 600.00 down the tubes because they don't help). Is this a cause of foot pain for people?

How frustrating for you and painful for DS!

    Have you tried a podiatrist?

You might also want to see a chiropractor because they can adjust the bones in our feet too. I had a chiro do this for me a few times and man did it ever help with pain!

It's probably nothing more than uneven feet, but I'd definitely check with his pediatrician to make sure that nothing else is going on. Ask to have leg length measured as well - a difference of more than a little could throw his gait out of whack, and cause hip and back problems, but can be easily corrected with a lift inside the shoe. You might ask for a referral to a pediatric orthopedist. DD9 has some orthopedic issues, and I find that pediatric specialists are really a better option.

As for the shoes, do you have a Nordstrom's anywhere close? If there is at least a size difference between feet, they will split a pair of shoes at no charge. DD wears a leg brace on her right leg, so she needs a shoe about 1.5 sizes bigger (sometimes 2 whole sizes for dress shoes). There shoe department staff are specially trained to fit for different issues, and I have been blown away by there customer service. We travel almost 2 hours to the nearest store, and it is well worth it. Their shoes can be a little pricy, but not when you consider the cost of buying two pairs (only to throw half of them away) at other stores.

Good luck, hope this gets resolved soon

I did not know this. This is amazing. We have the same issue with older DS as his feet are about 1-1.5 sizes different because of amputation issues. I am so glad to hear this. Thank you so much for this information. We actually have a Nordstrom about 45min away so that works great.

Thanks for the Nordstrom's advice. I'll have to see if we have one around here. I should look online to see if they have the shoes my son will wear! I just bought a pair of Adios skate shoes last night but it kills me that one won't fit!

I'm going to call his orthopedist today. I can't believe they didn't pick up on this when they were fitting him for those 600.00 inserts!

And actually, one of his legs is a bit longer than the other. A genetics doctor (yes, I know her name but that's another thread!) sent us to the orthopedist because of that.

    Here we go again............

We also have a child in this situation. We find that if we go to a shoe store, they will usually give us at least 25% off the second pair without us asking. The hardest part was trying to find shoes that match when one foot was in an adult size and the smaller one was in a child size.
