Mar. 16, 1911 – Motion picture designer Harper Goff, who collaborated with Walt Disney on Disneyland’s design, and helped design the Epcot World Showcase Pavilions, was born in Fort Collins, Co.
Mar. 16, 1923 – Animator, Imagineer and Disney Legend Joyce Carlson was born in Racine, Wisconsin. She would go on to help create the original “It’s a Small World” for the New York World’s Fair in 1964.
Mar. 16, 1934 – At the Ambassador Hotel in the Fiesta Room, in Los Angeles, Ca. Disney won an Oscar for the cartoon “The Three Little Pigs” at the 6th Annual Academy Awards.
Mar. 16, 1955 – “The Ballad of Davy Crockett”, by Bill Hayes, reached the number one spot on the pop music charts, and stayed there for 5 weeks.
Mar. 16, 1961 – Disney’s “The Absent Minded Professor” starring Fred MacMurray, Nancy Olsen, and Ed Wynn was released. The films “Medfield Fight Song” was written by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman.
Mar. 16, 1967 – Actress Lauren Graham (who appeared in Disney’s 2005 comedy feature “The Pacifier”) was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Mar. 16, 1968 – Louis Armstrong and his 7-piece band (augmented with a studio orchestra and choir) recorded 4 songs for the upcoming LP “Disney Songs the Satchmo Way” in a Hollywood Studio. This days session included “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” “When You Wish Upon A Star,” “Bibbidy-Bobbidy-Boo,” and “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.”
Mar. 16, 1974 – The “Magic Carpet ‘Round the World” CircleVision film prepared for the Monsanto-sponsored attraction debuted at WDW. (Ended Mar. 14, 1975)
Mar. 16, 1999 – “The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit,” a Touchstone Video production based on a Ray Bradbury story, was released direct-to-video. The film was produced by Stuart Gordon and Roy E. Disney.
